Youth Activities Tae Kwon Do Beginner Ages 7 - Adult

Instructor Mathew Davidson - Classes are taught by second-degree black belt, Mathew Davidson has over twelve years’ experience. He is a member of the International Black Belt Hall of Fame. Classes are structured to ensure enjoyment as well as instill discipline. Students are expected to wear loose fitting clothing to all classes. Classes will help students with focus, eye-hand coordination, respect for others, patience, and help teach self-discipline. Tae Kwon Do - Intermediate & Advanced Ages 7 - Adult

Instructor Mathew Davidson - Classes are taught by second-degree black belt, Mathew Davidson has over twelve years’ experience. He is a member of the International Black Belt Hall of Fame. Testing is a privilege and is treated as such. Students will continue to learn more techniques while intense practice of lower level work is still expected. Students have now started their long journey towards the black belt. In this group, students have the ability to learn various techniques such as self-defense, sparring and weaponry. A mandatory meeting with the younger students’ parents and the student will be conducted before any of these things will be taught. Class Min 4/Max 20. Instructors Diane and Margo Massad -Tumble Bugs preschool gymnastics classes teach developmentally appropriate gymnastics skills with the direct aim of enhancing social skills, gross motor skills, reading readiness, and coordination. Youth Activities The Lakewood City Schools Early Childhood Program Designed to meet the needs of Prekindergarten children, the program is available to Lakewood children who meet the eligibility criteria. Classes are composed of eligible four-year old Public Preschool students and eligible Early Childhood Special Education students. Public Preschool students are eligible if they are: - A Lakewood resident - Four years old by Sept. 30 - Toilet trained Tuition is based on a sliding fee scale. Instructor Sarah Kass - Learn the basic skills, balance and coordination used in the sport of fencing. This class prepares the younger student for beginner classes. Emphasis is on visual examination of situations and correct movements. Wear sweat pants and sneakers. Class Min 3/ Max 6. (6 weeks)

Instructor Sara Kass - Learn swordsmanship. Students will learn skills from en garde stance to parries that will prepare them for a mock competition at the end of the semester. Spanish for Preschoolers Ages 1-5 Instructor Alejandro Nieves - Sing songs in Spanish to your child and develop a second language that will last for ever. Parents/caregivers listen, repeat, sing, do the motions, dance and identify pictures. Also create your own Spanish bedtime story! Bricks 4 Kidz - Explore sports ranging from gymnastics to biking, mini-golf to airplane acrobatics! This unit is a great way to get “sporty” kids building and get LEGO® fans interested in sports. Some lessons focus on the importance of physical fitness and different aspects of fitness, such as stamina and strength. But the best part for the students is the way the models move and the fun they have playing with them after they’re built. Maybe they’ll be inspired to try a new sport, or build a model of their favorite sport! Young Rembrandts Drawing Classes Welcome to Young Rembrandts! Our elementary-age curriculum is designed to teach basic to advanced drawing skills, art techniques and vocabulary. We believe that drawing is the bedrock skill required for future artistic success. We give them skills to express their creativity, and believe that all children can - and should - learn to draw. We provide all materials and teach new lessons each week in a positive and nurturing environment, which brings out the best in each child. The pee wee program provides kids the opportunity to be part of a team, make new friends, and have fun while participating in a healthy activity which encourages teamwork and good sportsmanship. Games are played at various gyms throughout Lakewood City Schools Pre-season group practices will be at a time and location to be determined. Teams will be assigned to a 1 hour group practice based on registration. All players and coaches are encouraged to attend.

Aquatics Lakewood Recreation Learn-To-Swim Course Descriptions The Lakewood Recreation learn-to-swim program is an independent progressive program emphasizing safety and .a streamlined teaching approach.

Swimmers learn how to dive into the deep water from the side. Safety emphasis is on when to call 911.

Shrimps 1: (12 months to 2 years) This parent and child class provides structure while allowing the child to be comfortable in the water along with the parent.

Level 5 (5 - 14 years of age) Swimmers continue to perfect the freestyle and backstroke, while being introduced to the breaststroke. More endurance in both swimming and treading is built. Swimmers are introduced to the front dive from the diving board. Safety emphasis is on what to do in an emergency.

Shrimps 2: (2 years of age) This parent and child class provides structure while encouraging the child to continue to explore the pool alongside a parent. Shrimps 3: (3 years of age) This parent and child class fosters safe independence by encouraging the children to, through use of floatation aids, move independently alongside a parent. Beginner 4 Year Olds: (4 years of age) Children are encouraged to be comfortable in the water, while learning basic floats and locamotion skills. Intermediate 4 Year Olds: (4 years of age) Locomotion skills are improved upon with less use of floatation aids. Children continue to build on basic floats and safety skills. Advanced 4 Year Olds: (4 years of age) The freestyle stroke is introduced, as well as swimming on the back. Child must be comfortable putting his/her face in the water. Level 1: (5 - 12 years of age) Beginner swimmers work on gaining confidence in the water by using floatation devices to assist in movement, submerging their face in the water and basic floating. Safety emphasis is on wearing a life jacket when appropriate. Level 2: (5 - 12 years of age) Beginner swimmers expand their confidence level in the water by swimming without floatation for 15 yards, submerging and retrieving an object from underwater and basic movement while on their back. Safety emphasis is on entering the pool appropriately. Level 3: (5 - 12 years of age) Swimmers are introduced to the freestyle stroke using rotary breathing and the elementary backstroke with a flutter kick. This is the last level taught in the shallow sections of the pool. Safety emphasis is on swimming with a friend in a supervised area. Level 4 (5 - 14 years of age) This is the first level taught in water where the swimmers cannot stand. Swimmers begin to build endurance while swimming the freestyle, and the backstroke and side stroke are introduced.

Level 6 (5 - 14 years of age) Swimmers learn the butterfly stroke, while perfecting the breaststroke. Swimmers learn about Swimmers are also trained to pass the prerequisites for the lifeguarding course. Swimmers with Special Needs: (4 Years of age and older) We provide individualized lessons for swimmers with documented special needs. Swimmers learn at their own pace, featuring a individualized curriculum based on the desires of the swimmer/family.
