Farewell Editorial

T

IME FLIES! Almost three years have passed since the inaugural issue of the IEEE/OSA JOURNAL OF DISPLAY TECHNOLOGY (JDT) was published. Serving as the founding Editor-in-Chief (EIC) was truly an exciting experience for me. I had opportunities to attend the IEEE Panel of Editors meeting, Publication Board meeting, and OSA leadership workshops to strategize the future publication policy, and learn how to serve the contributors and readers more efficiently. It is amazing that IEEE has more than 170 well-respected journals, transactions, and magazines. Meanwhile, OSA focuses on a handful of highimpact journals I am glad to have had this opportunity to serve the display community by establishing a high-quality peer-reviewed journal. My first three-year term has expired. In order to sustain the healthy growth of JDT, I think it is better to have a new EIC who will inject new blood and a fresh point of view. During the new EIC search process, we received enthusiastic nominations from all over the world. Finally, JDT’s Steering Committee unanimously selected Professor Arokia Nathan as their new EIC. Arokia served diligently as an Associate Editor in his first three-year term. His research covers a broad range, including TFT LCDs, OLEDs, and circuit designs, etc.

Display technology is advancing rapidly and the market is growing steadily. It is known that the research and development centers and major manufacturing houses are now located in Asia. To respond to this center of gravity shift, we have recruited some new Associate Editors from Japan, Korea, and Taiwan to keenly reflect the global interest. Meanwhile, to accelerate the publication speed, we have introduced a rapid publication section called Display Technology Letters. All the timely manuscripts submitted to the Letters section will be handled and reviewed promptly. Letter page length is limited to three printed pages. Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Coordinating and Steering Committee Members, Associate Editors, and managing and editorial staff for their hard work to keep on-time publication of the journal. I also want to thank all the authors and reviewers for maintaining the quality of JDT. I hope JDT will continue to grow and serve the needs of display and lighting industries and academia.

SHIN-TSON WU, Editor-in-Chief CREOL: College of Optics and Photonics University of Central Florida Orlando, FL 32816 USA (e-mail: [email protected]).

Shin-Tson Wu (M’98–SM’99–F’04) received the B.S. degree in physics from National Taiwan University, and the Ph.D. degree from the University of Southern California, Los Angeles. He is a PREP professor at College of Optics and Photonics, University of Central Florida (UCF). His studies at UCF concentrate in foveated imaging, bio-photonics, optical communications, liquid crystal displays, and liquid crystal materials. Prior to joining UCF in 2001, he worked at Hughes Research Laboratories, Malibu, CA, for 18 years. He has co-authored 4 books: Fundamentals of Liquid Crystal Devices (Wiley, 2006, with D. K. Yang); Introduction to Microdisplays (Wiley, 2006, with D. Armitage and I. Underwood) Reflective Liquid Crystal Displays (Wiley, 2001, with D. K. Yang) and Optics and Nonlinear Optics of Liquid Crystals (World Scientific, 1993, with L. C. Khoo), 5 book chapters, and over 300 journal papers. He has more than 75 issued and pending patents. Several of his patents have been implemented in display and photonic devices. Dr. Wu is a Fellow of the Society of Information Display (SID), Optical Society of America (OSA), and SPIE.
