2015 Engineer of the Year: Stephen D. Elting Stephen D. Elting, Director of Technical Services for Elting Mechanical Enterprises, has over 20 years of machine design and engineering experience. From beginning as a draftsman for Greiner Inc. in the late 1980's, Steve worked his way through college to earn a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of South Florida (1999). He's held positions from chief design engineer to engineering manager for Black & Decker, Calgon Carbon Corp, ABC Packaging Machine Corp, and Universal Labeling. He currently mentors two FIRST Robotics teams from H.B. Plant High School, in 3D CAD design. As a member of ASME for 16 Years, he has served as section Chairman, Vice‐Chairman, and Secretary. 2015 Student Engineer of the Year: Katie Hart Ms. Katie Hart is currently an undergraduate student studying Mechanical Engineering at the University of South Florida (USF). She is the Vice-Chairman for the ASME Student Section at USF and has served previously as the Treasurer, and Internal Fund Raising Officer. Her commitment to volunteerism doesn’t stop there, as she is also a mentor for freshmen engineers living in the Engineering Living Learning Community or ELLC. In addition to her studies, she is also an Undergraduate Research Assistant in the Rehabilitation Engineering and Electromechanical Design (REED) lab performing cutting edge multidisciplinary research building, designing, and testing passive dynamic walker systems. Her work ethic, dedication, and commitment, to her chosen field make her an outstanding recipient of the ASME “Student Engineer of the Year” Award.
2015 Engineering Week Banquet Great food, networking opportunities abound, an amazing keynote speaker, and numerous raffle prizes made the 2015 Engineering Week Banquet an absolute success. The A La Carte Pavilion comfortably accommodated the well attended event. A total of twenty five awards were distributed in the Engineer of the Year, Young Engineer of the Year, Lignell Award, and Student Engineer of the Year categories. Jim Anderson served as the Master of Ceremonies and kept the night lively and without a dull moment. Keynote speaker Story Musgrave, a “child laborer and teenage marine” explained how imagination, curiosity, and determination enabled him to achieve his life’s ambitions (including seven graduate degrees, and becoming former surgeon and astronaut). The photographs below provide a glance into the memorable occasion (PHOTOS: the top left, top right, and center left were ASME tables; center right, pre-dinner networking; bottom, Nyssa Masters and USF student attendees).

Free Webinar: Maximizing Product Development Efficiency Through PLM Tata Technologies has teamed up with CIMdata to provide a comprehensive and informative webinar targeting product development efficiency. The complimentary webinar titled Realizing Your Product Development Performance Potential: 5 Metrics for Change is set for 11 a.m. EST March 10. Tata Technologies Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) thought leaders Chief Strategy Officer Richard Welford, Head PLM Strategy Consultant Lionel Grealou and PLM Consultant Chris Hind will be joined by CIMdata President Peter Bilello in an intriguing discussion of five metrics for improving product development performance through a mature PLM strategy. Registration for the webinar begins immediately. “We are excited to share our PLM experience and knowledge and to illustrate some of the product development efficiency challenges that we have helped our customer overcome,” Grealou said. Chief engineers are striving for cost-effective solutions to support their product development priorities—creating more innovative, better and cost-effective products. A well-executed PLM strategy uniting people, processes and technology is a critical success factor for manufacturing companies large and small. While PLM can be a major performance driver, realizing this success can be a challenge. According to a recent CIMdata study, 75 percent of executives reported not getting the returns expected from their PLM investments. The webinar will reveal:
Top five metrics leading manufacturers are using to get maximum value from their PLM Top three most commonly overlooked areas of PLM maturity hindering company-wide performance The number one PLM priority manufacturers are investing in for 2015 Practical advice on aligning your organization for PLM success Important pitfalls to avoid when considering implementing PLM solutions
Webinar attendees are eligible to receive a PLM Analytic Benchmark Assessment, a 17-point, high-level analysis that compares the performance of a company’s PLM environment against industry best practices and also identifies areas for potential value realization.
