Based in the firm’s Los Angeles office, Mr. Barnett is considered one of the world’s leading authorities in the field of eDiscovery. Throughout his illustrious career he has advised clients and served as an electronic discovery expert in some of the nation’s largest civil, regulatory and criminal matters in the financial services, banking, energy, pharmaceutical, telecommunications, automobile manufacturing and tobacco industries. In his current position, Mr. Barnett is responsible for the firm’s strategic direction in eDiscovery technology, thought leadership and go-to market strategies. He advises companies and law firms as a consulting and testifying expert on all aspects of electronic discovery, information and data management, regulatory compliance issues in large complex litigation and enforcement matters. He also counsels law firms and corporations in electronic discovery process creation and efficiency, risk mitigation, and litigation and regulatory preparedness related to digital data and electronic records. “Tom is truly one of the leading authorities and pioneers in the field of eDiscovery and has been responsible for advancing the state of the industry,” said Edward M. Mr. Barnett also served as Special Counsel in the litigation department at Sullivan & Cromwell, LLP where he founded and led the firm’s Electronic Discovery & Compliance Department. In that role, he established and oversaw the firm’s practice involving all aspects of electronic data in civil discovery, regulatory response and internal investigations. Prior to joining Sullivan & Cromwell, Mr. Barnett was the founding member and senior executive in charge of the electronic discovery division of the largest business process outsourcing company in Asia which was an early innovator in complex eDiscovery analytics. Mr. Barnett was a co-author and a member of the editorial board of the original Sedona Conference Principles on Electronic Document Production. He currently serves on the Board of Editors of the Electronic Discovery Reference Model (EDRM) Project. He is also a faculty member and sits on the Advisory Board of the Georgetown University Law Center Advanced eDiscovery Institute, the eDiscovery Expert Witness Directory Committee, and the International Institute for Conflict Prevention & Resolution. As one of the leading experts in the field, Mr. Barnett has authored numerous articles, whitepapers and treatises on electronic discovery and data management.
