Montco Sheriff partners with community college foundation for employee scholarship fund Norristown, Pa. (July 24, 2017) – Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office employees and their families will get help paying for classes going toward degree programs at Montgomery County Community College. Sheriff Sean P. Kilkenny and MCCC President Dr. Kevin Pollock introduced the Sheriff’s Office Scholarship Fund, a partnership between the MCSO and the MCCC Foundation on July 24, 2017, during a press event at the College. “Our large staff is highly trained and hardworking,” said Montgomery County Sheriff and MCCC Trustee Sean P. Kilkenny. “But, I wanted to help them with furthering their education, with the hopes that they would be able to move closer to reaching their highest professional level.” The MCSO is one of the largest law enforcement agencies in Montgomery County with 115 sworn staff and 25 civilians. Though a college degree is not required for employment, applicants who have a post-secondary education are given more consideration. MCSO Dep. Nikki Burns, Chief Deputy Adam T. Berry, Sheriff Sean P. “I think that having college experience can help our law enforcement and office staff provide better service the public, and make our operation run more efficiently,” said Kilkenny. Money for the scholarship fund will come from proceeds raised at an annual golf outing and other fundraisers. The golf fundraiser will be held on August 21, 2017, at 1:00 p.m., at Blue Bell Country Club, 1800 Tournament Drive, Blue Bell, PA 19422. There are several sponsorship levels available, in addition to lunch and dinner only options. “Our goal is to raise $10,000 this year,” said Kilkenny. “That amount would cover almost all of the costs of tuition and fees for a two-year degree program for one of our employees.”

Golf event sponsorships and direct fund donations are partial to fully tax-deductible with assistance from the MCCC Foundation. The Foundation supports scholarships, grants, emergency funds, enrichment programs, and activities at the College. Current employees, previous employees with over 10 years of service, and immediate family members are eligible to apply. Students will not be required to show financial need; however, they must be enrolled in a degree program at the College, and in good academic standing. “I enjoy the close relationship I have with the College as a trustee and as the sheriff,” said Kilkenny. “Many of our outstanding employees and candidates are graduates of the College’s police academy and academic programs.” If you would like more information about donating to the Sheriff’s Office Scholarship Fund or sponsoring the golf outing, please visit www.montcopa.org/sheriff, or call 484-679-8150. #
