FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE RALLY FOR EDUCATION Hendersonville, NC – June 19, 2013 – A Rally for Education will be held at noon, Saturday, August 24 in front of Senator Apodaca’s District Office in Hendersonville; the 1500 block of West 5th Avenue immediately adjacent to the Shell Station. The majority of our NC General Assembly recommended and our Governor approved less financial support for public education than existed in 2007. Local speakers will address specific elements of the shortfall and its negative impact on students. The overall impact will be addressed by an NCAE keynote speaker. The public is invited to participate. A special invitation is extended to our great community of retirees that, unlike our State Legislators, recognize the value of education. Teachers, Administrators, Students and Parents are expected to attend the rally. Home-made signs of protest will be welcomed. A chair is reserved for Senator Apodaca; whether it will remain vacant or filled remains to be seen. He has been invited to respond to the expected criticism of his vote for the minimal education support being funded. The Hendersonville event has been developed by a group of concerned citizens inspired by the Moral Monday movement as well as a similar event recently concluded in Asheville.
