Val Verde Unified School District Named Google “Reference District”

Perris, California – Val Verde Unified School District is honored to be one of the first districts in the country to hold the title of “Google for Education Reference District.” According to Google, Districts with this title “demonstrate excellence and thought leadership through the innovative use of technology, including G Suite for Education (formerly known as Google Apps for Education) and Chromebooks, to drive impact and positive learning outcomes.” Districts selected for this title will have the opportunity to share resources, attend workshops, and give tours to other educators. Val Verde Unified School District is committed to ensuring that every student is future ready. This year we’ve become a 1 to 1 District. This means that all students have access to an electronic device, such as a Chromebook, that enhances their educational experience. This month Columbia Elementary School is piloting a program where students will be taking District issued Chromebooks back and forth from school to home. “This initiative is a great opportunity to ensure digital equity and access among all of our students. When so much of today’s relevant education is online, access to a device at home is more important than ever” said Matt Penner, Val Verde Unified School District Information and Instructional Technology Director. “We want to make sure that all of our students can compete in the 21st century workforce. This partnership with Google reinforces our commitment to increasing students’ skills in the areas of communication, collaboration, critical thinking, and creativity as part of our goal of making Every Student, Future Ready” said Val Verde Unified School District Superintendent Michael R. McCormick.
