Built in 1891, this hotel was designed by John Teague. The ground floor was occupied by shops and the two upper stories included lavishly decorated rooms and an impressive 80 seat restaurant. In 1920, the hotel was renovated to accommodate war veterans and their families. From 1935 until 1947, the women's branch of the Armed Forces used the building as their headquarters. The building was demolished in 1961.

Richard Wolfenden came to Victoria in 1859 as a member of the Royal Engineers. After the disbandment of the Royal Engineers, he worked for the Provincial Government where he rose to the position of Queen's Printer. He was married to Kate Cooley Wolfenden.

Stan was very active in athletic organizations and played lacrosse, soccer, tennis and badminton. In 1922, he began his liftime career in the magazine distribution industry and became the founder of Stan V. Wright Ltd. Stan also served in the UCT and Elks and was also a member of the Periodical Distributors of Canada and Western Canadian Wholesalers. Hi wife Margaret Bennetts Wilson was born in Victoria and married Stan on May 27, 1931. She died on August 5, 1992.

Henry Young owned and operated several hotels including the Glenshiel Hotel. He also owned the dry goods 2388 store White House located on Government Street. He died in 1917. Matilda Beynon arrived in Victoria with Bishop Cridge intending to do missionary work. She and Henry had six children. She died in 1920.

Michael Young emigrated to North America from Bavaria. After living in San Francisco for six years, Michael 1090 moved to Victoria in 1876. He owned and operated the New England Hotel with his brother. He died in 1934 at the age of 91.
Young, Rosalind Watson
Rosalind Watson Young was born in Huntingdon, Quebec on April 19, 1874. After receiving a B.A. at McGill University, she came to Victoria in 1896 where she taught at the Girls' Central Intermediate and Victoria High School. In 1901, he received her M.A. from McGill and in 1904 she married the politician Dr. Henry Esson Young. She was the first President of the University Women's Club of Victoria in 1908. She died on February 2, 1962 in Victoria.
