A TELEGRAM FROM SACRAMENTO TO PARIS! CALL FOR ARTISTS WHAT: Have your artwork selected to represent the Sacramento arts community in Paris! In conjunction with our Serge! celebration, and for the first time this year, the Sacramento French Film Festival is launching a call for artists so that the Sacramento arts community can be represented on the “Gainsbourg Wall” in Paris! Create a stencil inspired by French icon Serge Gainsbourg. The winning design will be stenciled on the iconic graffiti-covered wall in front of Gainsbourg’s house on rue de Verneuil in Paris this summer. Photo documentation will be provided back to the winner! Gainsbourg lived at 5 bis rue de Verneuil from 1969 until his death in 1991. Since he passed away, artists and fans have been paying homage to him by adding graffiti, poems, collages, and stencils on the wall in front of his house, making the “Gainsbourg Wall” a constantly evolving work of art. Entries will be judged by a team composed of members of the SFFF, Verge Center for the Arts, and local artists. WHY: On Saturday, April 13, 2013 at 7:30pm, the Sacramento French Film Festival presents Serge! the 4th annual Gainsbourg Tribute at Verge Center for the Arts, 625 S Street in downtown Sacramento. The evening will include short films, two live tribute bands, music by DJ Christophe and DJ Roger, video clips, and art. WHO: Serge Gainsbourg, a major figure in the 1960's, ‘70's, and ‘80's pop-culture, took the world by storm through a fog of Gitanes and alcohol. Singer-songwriter, director, actor, photographer, provocateur, and iconoclast, Gainsbourg was the lover of sex-symbol Brigitte Bardot and fathered singer-actress Charlotte Gainsbourg with famous English beauty Jane Birkin. Serge is still considered one of the world's most influential and popular artists. HOW: Artists are to create a stencil tribute to Serge Gainsbourg. Size: No more than a one yard square. Content: The only specifications are that the word “Sacramento” must be a component of the artwork and the stencil must roll up for transport to France. Artists are to provide a stencil and an example of the final product. WHEN: Deadline for submission is Thursday, May 30th, 2013. The winner will be announced at the Crest Theatre during the 12th Sacramento French Film Festival. Entries are being accepted at University Art’s Midtown location at 2601 J Street during their regular business hours (call 916-443-5721 for hours). www.universityart.com/Sacramento_Midtown SACRAMENTO FRENCH FILM FESTIVAL – 2634 28TH STREET, SACRAMENTO, CA 95818 TEL 916/ 455 9390 – WWW.SACRAMENTOFRENCHFILMFESTIVAL.ORG
