The Fulton Montgomery Quilt Barn Trail (FMQ8T) is

a

tourism trail that will visually connect the outdoor landscape with unique quilt barn squares throughout Fulton and Montgomery counties. A barn quilt square is a large painted wooden square that

a textile quih block and is hung on a barn, house or other resembles

5tructure.

Wooden barn quilt squares can be based on

traditional patterns with individual influences making them unique to each prop€rty and

community. The square is frequently mounted on a barn and is thus called a "barn quilt", while the building may be called a "quilt barn". When several of

the

squares

are

displayed

throuShout a community they create a "quilt barn trail". They usuaffy range in size ftom 4' x 4' to 8'x 8' although other sizes may be considered due to limited space. Th€y are made from exterior grade materials to last many years. The first quilt barn trail was created in 2OO1 in Adams County Ohio. Donna Sue Groves had the original idea as a personal way to honor her mother who was an avid quiltef. What started as an individual gift idea with one square quickly blossomed into a community wide event with twenty and has since grown into a nationwide public arts movement.

Quilt barn trails can be found in almost all 50 states and represent community pride and individual artistry. They also serve as an incredible opportunity

to promote tourism by introducing a whole new audience to the amazing small businesses that dot a

rural landscape.

The FMQBT already has some barn quilt squares displayed but we are seeking community members to help grow and connect the trail throughout the region. You can be a part of the trail by making a barn quilt square and displaying it on your property or by purchasing a board custom made for you. For more information please contact
