Fundations® Unit Test Scoring Guidelines The Fundations Unit Test measures a student’s knowledge of concepts that are taught in a specific Fundations unit. Fundations Unit Tests are administered at the end of each instructional unit. The benchmark is 80% for each test. Below provides guidelines for scoring the unit test. Students who are significantly below benchmark or who are consistently below benchmark should be considered for additional in-class support to master the unit’s concepts. Before progressing to the next unit, 80% of the class should be at or above benchmark. Test Trackers: Class and Individual Unit Test Trackers are interactive tools to monitor how students are progressing. These trackers are available on fundations.com website. LEVEL K: UNIT TEST SCORING DIRECTIONS Unit 1: The benchmark is 8 for each subtest given: Identify Lower Case Letter, Identify Letter/Sound, and Form Lower Case Letters. Unit 2: The benchmark is 8 for each subtest given: Identifies Beginning Sounds, Identifies UpperCase Letters, Form Upper-Case Letters Unit 3: The benchmarks for the subtests are: Identify Ending Sounds = 8 Read C-V-C Words =4.
Blend Sounds to Form Words = 4. Students should name letters in ABC order
Unit 4: The benchmarks for the subtests are: Identify Vowel Sounds = 4 Tap & Read Words = 4. Segment Words into Sounds=4. Tap & Spell Words =4 Students should be able to retell a story
Unit 5: The benchmark is 4 for each subtest given: Identify Trick Words, Read a sentence, complete a sentence, Relate Events in a Narrative LEVEL 1: UNIT TEST SCORING DIRECTIONS The benchmark is 80% for each test (a score of 16+). Points are awarded in the following way: Sounds
= 5 points: Students receive one point for each sound correctly identified.
Words
= 10 points: Students receive one point for each word spelled correctly.
Trick Words = 2 points: Students receive one point for each Trick Word spelled correctly Sentences
= 2 points: Students receive one point for each sentence. All elements in the sentence must be correct to receive the point.
Marking
= 1 point: Students receive one point if all marking skills are performed correctly
(Note: The Test Tracker does not include Unit 1 because many of the concepts presented and taught in Unit 1 will be review for students who completed Level K. Ideally, all students entering Level 1, Unit 1 will be able to master these concepts. Use your best judgment to determine if a student may need additional instruction.)
LEVEL 2: UNIT TEST SCORING DIRECTIONS The benchmark is 80% for each test (a score of 16+). Points are awarded in the following way: Sounds
= 5 points: Students receive one point for each sound correctly identified.
Words
= 10 points: Students receive one point for each word spelled correctly.
Sentences
= 3 points: Students receive one point for each of the following: 1 point for capitalization 1 point for spelling, (all words, including Trick Words, in the sentence must be spelled correctly to receive the point) 1 point for punctuation
Marking
= 2 points possible: Students receive one point for each of the following: 1 point if all sounds are marked correctly 1 point if the student marks both sentences correctly
LEVEL 3: UNIT TEST SCORING DIRECTIONS The benchmark is 80% for each test (a score of 16+). Points are awarded in the following way: Sounds
= 4 points: Students receive one point for each sound correctly identified.
Words
= 10 points: Students receive one point for each word spelled correctly.
Sentences = 6 points possible: Students receive points for the following: 2 points: spelling all words in each sentence correctly (1 point for sentence one, 1 point for sentence two) 2 points: marking all words in each sentence correctly (1 point for sentence one, 1 point for sentence two) 2 points: correct capitalization and punctuation in each sentence (1 point for sentence one, 1 point (Note: There are three sentences in Unit 12, please only use the first two for this purpose.)
