Most of our students have little trouble getting a visa for their stay in Austria. EU citizens and citizens of Island, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland do not need a visa at all. Citizens of some countries need to apply for a visa for stays longer than three months. Citizens of some countries (esp. German and Work Experience ActiLingua offers German courses in combination with paid or unpaid work experience. The programme is divided into two parts. First you attend a preparatory German course in Vienna for at least four weeks. This is followed by a work placement lasting a minimum of one or two months at a carefully selected Austrian enterprise, e.g. hotel, restaurant, travel agency, import/export company or ski school. Course levels and certificates Placement After a written assessment test and an oral assessment talk you are placed in the appropriate level. The written assessment test takes approximately 60 minutes to complete and covers grammar, reading comprehension and writing skills. It is included in your booking materials or available online. Please return the placement test till Tuesday prior to course start at the latest, otherwise it is possible that you miss the first day’s classes.

Course Levels according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages: A1-Beginner You are a complete beginner or have very little knowledge of German. At this level you learn basic sentence structures and vocabulary to help you get simple messages across in everyday situations. A2-Elementary 1 You have little knowledge of German. You learn to make simple enquiries in speaking and writing and to give instructions. You build on your basic grammar skills and increase your vocabulary.

B1/1-Elementary 2 You have some knowledge of German. You learn how to express yourself adequately in familiar, everyday situations and to read and understand simple texts. A2 Grundstufe Deutsch (GD) The candidate is able to communicate in everyday situations on an elementary level. B1 Zertifikat Deutsch The Zertifikat Deutsch is a joint certificate of OSD, the Goethe Institute, WBT and Fribourg University. This certificate is widely recognized by conservatories as entrance examination and by employers as sufficient evidence of proficiency in German and improves your chances of success on the job market. After completing B1/2-Elementary 3. B2 Mittelstufe Deutsch (University Admission) The candidate can communicate spontaneously and fluently with native speakers about a broad spectrum of topics. C1 Oberstufe Deutsch (University Admission) C1 Oberstufe Deutsch is accepted by Austrian and some German universities as sufficient proof of German language skills for admittance to studies. Accommodation A relaxed atmosphere is conducive to learning! We make every effort to ensure that your stay is as pleasant as possible. We regularly check accommodation standards. Your accommodation is reserved for you from 2 p.m. on the Sunday prior to course start until 11:00 p.m. on the Saturday following the last day of your course.

ActiLingua Residence 20 well-furnished and modern apartments await you in a recently renovated Art Nouveau building in a quiet location. Both the school and the city centre are accessible in 10-15 minutes with public transport. Availability: Year round. Standard Apartments: Single or twin room shared with other ActiLingua students in a non-smoking apartment (60-75 m2) featuring Sat TV, radio, free WLAN/WI-FI. 2-5 students share a fully equipped kitchen, bathroom and toilet. Rooms are cleaned twice weekly. Bed linen is provided; please bring your own towels. Superior Apartments: Single or twin room in own apartment for single use (30-40 m2) for 1 or 2 persons with fully equipped kitchen, Sat TV, radio, free WLAN/WI-FI and your own bathroom and toilet. Student House

You stay with a host family in their own home. Accommodation in host families is definitely the best way of practising your German and getting to know Austria and its people outside of the classroom. Host families can be childless couples, parents with schoolchildren or older people whose grown-up children have already left home. Availability: year-round. Meals: You may choose from use of the kitchen, substantial breakfast only or half board with a three-course lunch or evening meal. Facilities: You have your own single or twin room. You share the bathroom and the kitchen with your host family.

Every ActiLingua German course features five lessons of our cultural and leisure programme a week. • Vienna city walks and guided tours take our students into the city’s nooks and crannies. • Talks on Austrian music, art, history, literature and architecture allow for insights into the workings of Austrian society. • Videos with teacher support: vocabulary help and discussion help you understand. • Fun/adventure: Viennese waltz course, cooking, parties, karaoke, a torchlight walk through Vienna, a visit of a ‘Heurigen’ (traditional wine tavern) or a beer pub. • Sports: aerobic or ball games like football or volleyball. Holiday Course 16-19 years

Holiday Course at the Sacré Coeur.

Holiday Course 16-19 The course is aimed at students aged 1619 years, who prefer to spend time with their peers in Vienna. Lessons take place at the ActiLingua-Dependance Sacré Coeur, which is situated directly next-to the ActiLingua Academy. With its spacious park and many sports facilities it is well epuipped for housing a youth course in summer.

Lessons Lessons are held in small groups of 8 to maximum 15 students from Monday to Friday. You will practice grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation and oral comprehension in systematically structured lessons. Holiday Course 1: 25 Lessons per week: German course (20) in groups of 8-15 participants + cultural programme (5). Holiday Course 2: 25 Lessons per week: German course (20) in groups of 8-15 participants + 10 additional lessons + cultural programme (5). Course start: July, August. Course level: all levels. Summer School Vienna-Centre (12–17 years) The prestigious private school, founded by Empress Maria Theresia, provides perfect learning and recreational facilities for the ActiLingua junior programme. The school is located in central Vienna with many famous sights only a walk away or within easy reach of public transport. The house is spaciously laid out. In the middle of the campus a big park facilitates leisure and sports with football pitch, sports grounds, beach volleyball and tennis courts available for use after lessons. Our teachers put together an exciting leisure programme on the school premises and show you the very best of Vienna.

Lessons Lessons are held in small groups of maximum 15 students from Monday to Friday. Summer School Vienna-Centre 12-17 years Important notes • There are house rules to be observed by everyone, which are discussed with all students at the beginning of the course. • Participants on the junior courses may only leave the school premises with written permission of parents or legal guardians. Please provide written permission that your son/daughter may go out alone in the afternoons and/or evenings if you request. • The amount of pocket money you bring depends on what you are used to. However, we would recommend slightly more pocket money than at home – at least EUR 40 per week (telephone calls, travel tickets, admission tickets).

• On the first day of the course all students must furnish proof of health and casualty insurance and pay a deposit of EUR 30 which will be refunded on the last day provided that no damage has been caused to school property. • Cash, flight tickets and passports can be deposited with the course leader for safekeeping. • Please bring sufficient clothing and any equipment (e.g. tennis rackets) you may need for sporting activities and come prepared for rainy weather. If necessary, you can have your clothes washed at the school launderette. • We must be informed of any health conditions requiring special attention or special diets at registration.

Terms 1. Registration • Please fill in the registration form and send it to us per post, fax, e-mail or online via our homepage. The registration can be done through an ActiLingua representative in your country too. Minors must ask a parent or guardian to complete the relevant sections of the registration form. • At the time of your registration a deposit of EUR 198, which will be deducted from the final invoice, and - if applicable - the optional cancellation insurance fee need to be paid. • The remaining course fees are due within 30 days before the start of the course at the latest. Upon receipt of your full payment, we shall mail you our ‘Welcome Letter’ and the address of your accommodation.

3. Alteration of bookings We shall be happy to comply with your wishes for changes in your arrangements in respect of dates, accommodation, etc. as far as possible, up to 31 days prior to the start of the course (administration charge of EUR 40). Within 31 days of course start, you must make use of your right of cancellation and re-register in order to obtain the desired alterations.

4. Cancellation If you would like to cancel your course, please inform us immediately in writing. The cancellation fee for course and accommodation is:

Up to 4 days prior to the course start: EUR 198; No refund is possible in the event of cancellation three days or less prior to or after the start of the course, or at nonarrival of the participant. A cancellation becomes effective upon receipt by ActiLingua of written or wired notification. Should the cancellation be accompanied by nomination of a suitable replacement, ActiLingua will waive all fees apart from an administration charge of EUR 40,-.

5. Cancellation insurance We recommend to take out our cancellation insurance which costs 4 % of the total amount and has to be paid together with your deposit. This covers your programme costs if you are forced to cancel your programme prior to course beginning due to your own illness or the serious illness of a close family member (parent, spouse). A medical certificate is required for reimbursement. The cancellation insurance and travel costs are not reimbursed.

6. Travel insurance package Students are not insured by the school against illness, accident, theft, etc. Participants are recommended to take out an insurance policy (compulsory for Summer school courses). You can take out at ActiLingua the economical travel insurance package (health, accident, baggage and travel liability insurance) for your stay. Prices and covered amounts on request.

7. Visa information You are responsible for obtaining visas and must present the required visa forms to the Austrian consulate or embassy in your country before departure. We will provide you with payment confirmation and, if applicable, an invitation letter to assist you with visa application. You are responsible for any visa-related expenses.

8. Liability We assume no liability for accidents or illness incurred by the participant during the course. Claims of any kind for which the participant is responsible are to be settled by the participant directly with the party suffering damage. Parents or legal guardians are responsible for participants who have not reached majority.

12. Course numbers A group course must have at least four participants. If there are insufficient participants, ActiLingua reserves the right to cancel the course or to reduce the number of lessons by 25 %.
