Getting Started
The ESM serial number consists of 10 digits.
Licensing Enterprise Security Manager Your product includes license enforcement technology and will not operate completely unless you have a valid Manager License Key. You must obtain a Manager License Key and activate your product. You can register to receive support for your product. If you purchased Maintenance, you must also activate the content subscription for module and policy updates through LiveUpdate.

Registering and activating your product
Enterprise Security Manager uses the following mechanisms to enforce your product licenses:
To activate your license, before you install the manager component, you must do the following:

The manager mechanism lets the manager register agents up to the maximum number that is specified on the license.
■
Register to receive a Manager License Key.
■
Install the Manager License Key.
The content mechanism lets the content subscription, which is associated with your Maintenance contract, update the product.
Note: You can install the Manager License Key after you install the manager. However, the manager will install with minimal functionality. To register to receive a Manager License Key
Identifying your serial numbers

In a Web browser, go to the following URL: http://www.symantec.com/certificate
Your Value License Certificate lists an ESM serial number. If you purchased Maintenance, the certificate also lists a Maintenance serial number. These two items should not be confused as they are required to register and activate different functions of your product.

Click the link for Symantec Enterprise Security Manager.

Type the following information to complete your product registration: ■

To activate your license, install the Manager License Key.

To install the Manager License Key ◆
Do one of the following: ■
If you are installing the manager component, type your Manager License Key when you are prompted.
■
If you have already installed the manager component, in the Symantec ESM Console, type your Manager License Key. For more information, see the online Help or the Symantec Enterprise Security Manager User's Guide.
Type the requested information. The Maintenance serial number consists of one letter and 10 digits (for example, K1234567890). Your Serial Number is on the Value License certificate that came with your product.
You will receive an email from Symantec that contains the Manager License Key.

In a Web browser, go to the following URL:
When the Thank You page appears, close your Web browser. You will receive an email that has the Content license file for content updates attached.
To activate your content subscription
The manager is ready to register agents.
Registering and activating Maintenance

Detach and extract the Content license file (a .slf file) from the email that you received to a known location.

In the Symantec ESM Console, on the Help menu, click Install Content License.

Follow the on-screen instructions to install the Content license file.

After the Content license file is installed, run LiveUpdate to receive the latest content for your product.

If you purchased Maintenance with your product, you must register the Maintenance serial number to receive support services.
If you have questions, you can contact License Administration.
After you register your product, you will receive a Content License File that you must install to enable content updates through LiveUpdate.
