It has a supernatural power within it to change lives – a power no other book has. The Word of God is the most powerful thing in the Universe. no other book has. The Word of God is the most powerful thing in the Universe. • The entire ___________________ was created by the Word of God. God spoke it into existence at the Big Bang. Psalm 33:6, “The Lord merely spoke and the heavens were created. He breathed the word and all the stars were born.” • God speaks __________ into people. When Jesus was on earth, He brought people back to life simply by His Word. Jesus said that His words were more than just words; they were “spirit and life” (John 6:63). Without the Word of God, you could not be saved and have eternal life. How else would we know about Jesus, Heaven, and Hell apart from His Word? D.L. Moody said, “The Bible was not given to increase our knowledge but to change our lives.” The problem is: why do some people feel like they never get anything out of the Bible? Why do some feel that they don’t understand it or that it doesn’t make sense? The Bible is a difficult book if you don’t understand the principle of illumination. ILLUMINATION: Letting the Holy Spirit show me the _______________ of God’s Word and how it _______________ to my life. John 14:26, “The Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.” John 14:17, “He is the Holy Spirit, who leads into all truth.” John 16:15, “…the Spirit will take from what is mine and make it known to you.” Ephesians 1:17, “I ask the glorious Father and God of our Lord Jesus Christ to give you his Spirit. The Spirit will make you wise and let you understand what it means to know God.” Ephesians 1:18-19, “I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and his incomparably great power for us who believe.” The Bible is the only book you’ll ever have where you can talk to the _______________ while you’re reading it. WHAT HAPPENS WHEN GOD OPENS MY EYES? 1. I see the _________________________ to my _______________________. BIBLICAL EXAMPLE: Hagar and Ishmael. Genesis 21:19 “Then God opened her eyes and she saw a well of water. So she went and filled the skin with water and gave the boy a drink.” Hagar had the solution right in front of her – this well of water – but she couldn’t see it until God opened her eyes, helping her see from a different perspective. When you feel like you’re at a “dead end” and you can’t see the solution, you need God to illuminate your mind through His Word. You’re never going to see the solution to your problem on your own. God may need to open your eyes to see the resources that are around you. 2. I see the _________________________ to my _______________________. You’re trying to make progress, but do you ever feel like you just keep bumping up against an invisible wall? BIBLICAL EXAMPLE: Balaam, the Donkey, and an Angel Numbers 22:31 “Then the Lord opened Balaam's eyes, and he saw the angel of the Lord standing in the road with his sword drawn. So he bowed low and fell facedown.”

When your progress is being blocked you have one of two choices: Beat the donkey or let God open your eyes. 3. I see the __________________________ for what’s _________________________ me. Everybody feels under attack at different points in their life. (i.e. sickness, economy, income, relationships, etc.) BIBLICAL EXAMPLE: Elisha and the Arameans 2 Kings 6:17 “Elisha prayed, ‘O Lord, open his eyes so he may see.’ Then the Lord opened the servant's eyes, and he looked and saw the hills full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha!” You lose your _____________ when God is ______________. God needs to open your eyes to see all the resources on your side that He has commanded to take care of you. 4. I see how __________ is _____________________ with me. When you’re lonely, feel like you’re fighting a battle on your own, or feel like God is a million miles away, you need your mind illuminated to recognize His presence with you. BIBLICAL EXAMPLE: Disciples on the Road to Emmaus Luke 24:31, “Then their eyes were opened and they recognized him, and he disappeared from their sight.” PREPARING MYSELF FOR GOD TO ILLUMINATE HIS WORD: 1. I must begin a ____________________________ with __________________. 1 Corinthians 2:14 “The man without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned.” In John 3:3, Jesus declared, "I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again." 2. I must ask God in faith to ____________ my _____________. Psalm 119:18, “Open my eyes that I may see wonderful things in your Law!” James 1:5-6, “If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him. But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt.” Matthew 7:7, "Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.” Psalm 32:8, “I WILL instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I WILL counsel you and watch over you.” 3. I come with a ___________________ ________________________. Psalm 25:9, “He guides the humble in what is right and teaches them his way.” Proverbs 3:5-6, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.” 4. I cleanse my heart of __________ and _____________________. Matthew 5:8 “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.” 1 John 2:11, “Whoever hates his brother is in the darkness and walks around in the darkness; he does not know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded him.” 5. I commit in _____________________ to _____ what God says. Psalm 119:33-34, “Teach me, O Lord, to follow your decrees; then I will keep them to the end. Give me understanding, and I will keep your law and obey it with all my heart.” James 1:22, “Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. DO what it says!”
