The comfortable interior of the S featuring ‘Glow’ cloth upholstery, is spacious and contemporary, with perfect ergonomics ensuring everything is ready to hand.
The Golf Estate S and BlueMotion Golf Estate. The Golf Estate S and BlueMotion may be the entry level models, but they are far from basic. Externally, body-coloured bumpers, door handles and door mirrors with integrated indicators set the scene. Black roof rails are a practical addition, while chrome trim on the radiator grille surround and front bumper strips provide a distinctive look. The Golf Estate S and BlueMotion are ideally suited to meet the most varied of demands. The height-adjustable driver’s seat, for example, adapts to your exact requirements, as does the 60:40 split folding rear seat, enabling you to carry both passengers and luggage. In the rear, there are four load lashing points as well as two bag hooks, a luggage compartment light helps you find things in the dark while the removable and retractable luggage cover keeps items away from prying eyes. The central locking is conveniently operated remotely using the key, while a simple push of a button activates the front and rear electric windows. ‘Climatic’ air conditioning with semi-automatic control which also cools the glovebox, an RCD 210 radio/MP3 compatible CD player with four speakers and front reading lights add to the interior equipment. Designed to more than meet your every expectation, the Golf Estate S really is a perfect match. The BlueMotion model, however, represents the most efficient and economical vehicle in the Golf Estate range. While still benefiting from all the features of the S model, the introduction of low rolling resistance tyres and sports suspension translate to improved fuel economy and reduced CO2 emissions. To assist even further, the Highline multifunction computer also has an additional feature that provides a visual gear change recommendation for optimum ‘Climatic’ air conditioning with semi-

fuel consumption. This fuel efficiency does not, however, reduce its agility. The acceleration of the BlueMotion Golf Estate remains unchanged from the Golf Estate S, while the BlueMotion also has a slightly increased top speed. That is key to the BlueMotion philosophy: fuel efficiency and agility in a combination that still makes driving fun.

The beautifully crafted high quality materials of the SE, upholstered in ‘Maxima’ cloth, create the perfect ambience in the ergonomically designed interior.
The Golf Estate SE. You only have to sit in the Golf Estate SE to appreciate its exceptional levels of comfort and functionality. The front comfort seats with height and lumbar adjustment provide excellent support ensuring good posture while driving, the drawers beneath offer useful storage for any items you may need. Also beneficial on long journeys is the RCD 310 radio/ MP3 compatible CD player with eight speakers and AUX-in socket for connection to an external multimedia source (e.g. iPod and MP3 player). Cruise control enables you to sit back and relax while maintaining a constant speed, and ‘Climatic’ air conditioning with semi-automatic control, keeps the temperature just right. The multifunction computer (Midline) provides important information about your journey, such as exterior temperature and fuel consumption. Interior features continue with a rain sensor and automatic dimming interior rear-view mirror, dusk sensor and the automatic coming/leaving home lighting function and front footwell illumination which lights your entry and exit from your vehicle. Outside, the 16 inch ‘Toronto’ alloy wheels and chrome side window surrounds complete the look.

The Golf Estate Sportline. Dynamic appearance and sports performance go hand in hand in the Golf Estate Sportline. Sporting aesthetics include 17 inch ‘ClassiXs’ light alloy wheels with 225/45 R17 tyres and sports suspension lowered by approximately 15 mm, ensuring safe and spectacular handling. The Sportline is also distinguished by the rear tinted windows from B pillar back, front fog lights and chrome side window surrounds. Front sports seats with height and lumbar support not only provide optimum support when cornering, but also accentuate the sportiness, while the handbrake grip, gear lever knob and multifunction steering wheel in luxurious leather reinforce the feel of high quality and attention to detail. The multifunction steering wheel also provides controls for the RCD 310 radio/MP3 compatible CD player and multifunction computer, and if you choose an automatic DSG gearbox, your multifunction steering wheel will include paddle shift. In addition, the DSG gearbox now features an auto hold function which prevents your Golf Estate from rolling back when pulling away on a slope or during a hill start. The interior of the Sportline has comfort and convenience in mind, with remote central locking, alarm with interior protection, automatic coming/leaving home lighting function, dusk sensor, rain sensor and automatic dimming interior rear-view mirror and front footwell illumination. Keeping safe. Sleek body lines and dynamic styling are the epitome of classic Golf design. But it’s not just about looks. It’s about intelligent technology and advanced body building techniques creating a car that ensures maximum safety on every trip. The Electronic Stabilisation Programme (ESP) for example, provides optimum traction and cornering stability. Supported by the Traction Control system (ASR) and Electronic Differential Lock (EDL), with an Antilock Braking System (ABS) to prevent the wheels from locking in the event of sudden braking, you feel really safe in the Golf Estate. Safety of other road users is taken into consideration by the automatic hazard light activation under emergency braking. An abundance of airbags only reinforces the story, with driver and front passenger airbags with passenger’s airbag deactivation, front seat side impact airbags and curtain airbags for both front and rear seat passengers providing the highest levels of protection. Interior safety features continue with a warning light and buzzer for seat belts if unfastened and Isofix child seat preparation for the two outer rear seats which allows an Isofix child seat to be mounted directly onto the vehicle chassis.

Engines and gearboxes. Petrol. The petrol engine available for the Golf Estate is the 1.6 litre 102 PS. With its smooth running, it’s ideal for relaxed cruising, but is still capable of accelerating from 0-62 mph in 12.3 seconds on its way to a top speed of 114 mph where the law permits.
Diesel. All TDI engines have one thing in common: high levels of performance alongside exceptional economy. Two diesel engines are available for the Golf Estate, the first a1.9 litre developing 105 PS which is capable of achieving 54.3 mpg on the Combined fuel cycle*. This engine is also available with an optional DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) or, if you choose the Golf Estate BlueMotion, DPF is fitted as standard. On the Golf Estate BlueMotion, by intelligently refining existing technology from aerodynamics to gear ratios, this engine delivers a package that offers excellent economy up to 61.4 mpg over the Combined fuel cycle* and the DPF ensures CO2 emissions are an impressively low 122 g/km. The second diesel option is the sporty 2.0 litre generating 140 PS featuring the latest common rail technology, this technology not only ensures excellent performance and fuel consumption but also makes it incredibly quiet. This engine boasts impressive economy with 51.4 mpg on the Combined fuel cycle* yet can accelerate the Golf Estate to 62 mph in an impressive 9.7 seconds. As part of Volkswagen’s continued desire to satisfy European emissions legislation, certain diesel engines are now fitted with a Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF). This is part of the exhaust system responsible for cleaning the exhaust gases before they enter the atmosphere. In addition to converting the harmful exhaust gases in the same way as a conventional catalytic converter, the DPF uses advanced technology to reduce the emission of black smoke and soot. It filters the exhaust gases and particles before they leave the vehicle exhaust system, resulting in a cleaner environment and less pollution entering the atmosphere. Please note, driving conditions within inner-cities and the Channel Islands may not provide optimum conditions for the use of DPF technology. Therefore, it is advised that you consider this before ordering your vehicle with DPF.
Gearboxes. Depending on the engine you select, you can choose between a five or six speed manual gearbox. You could also opt for the innovative twin-clutch DSG gearbox available with DPF as standard. This fully automatic six speed gearbox, or new seven speed on the SE 1.9 litre TDI DPF 105 PS, combines the sportiness of a manual with the comfort of an automatic, characterised by its smooth gearshifts Model shown is Golf Estate Sportline with optional Bi-Xenon headlights and pearl effect paint.
with no traction interruption. Both DSG gearboxes feature an auto hold function which will automatically prevent your Golf Estate from rolling back when pulling away or during a hill start, making every journey just that little bit easier. * Please see the Engines section for fuel consumption and CO2 emissions figures.
