Aim of the event: The main aim of this group discussion was for students to realize that corruption is a deep-rooted menace that has eaten into the roots of our society and how students can build public opinion for a clean and transparent government and refuse to cooperate with the corrupt. Description of the event.

In this Group Discussion students exchanged their ideas and opinions on the situation of India. They discussed that there is hardly any sphere of social, economic, political and religious activity that is free from some kind of corruption. It takes the form of bribes, evasion of tax and exchange controls, embezzlement, etc. Few students said that it has become so common that the people have come to accept it as part of their lives. Students expressed their views that no country of the world has been able to root out corruption nor will India be able to do so. But few students said that something can be done to protect ourselves. They said that the justice system of India is seen as lethargic and inefficient by citizens. It has to be made quick and efficient. Further, the departmental superiors have to ensure that their subordinates do not indulge in corruption and if they do, they are dealt with promptly and adequately. There should be stringent laws in the country so that people are discouraged in taking recourse to means that are not correct. Strong laws that have no loopholes should be enacted.

The Group Discussion was thoughtful and reflective.
