Grupo Antena 3 Scaling Revenues by Building Tomorrow’s Business Today

“Accenture worked with Antena 3 to evolve the documentation activities from a more traditional operational model into a service oriented organization. The new organization manages content production in a way that supports their business requirements and optimizes archive services to Antena 3 employees as well as outside parties that purchase this information.” –Luis Maldonado, senior executive, Accenture’s Communications & High Tech industry group

Antena 3 Television is part of Grupo Antena 3, which is one of Spain’s largest multimedia companies. It has four digital terrestrial television channels plus radio stations, advertising in cinemas and Internet content. Headquartered in Madrid, the company broadcasts its four main channels via television, Internet and mobile phones.

Business challenge “We have 50,000 hours of content and 30,000 video tapes that need to be cataloged and prepared in order for Antena 3’s history to be a source of information. Antena 3 trusted Accenture to transform this content— all of it—into a documentation facility that is improving our audiovisual service both nationally and internationally.” – Fernando Costi, Director of Internal Audit and Process Control, Grupo Antena 3 Antena 3 has a history of going “beyond broadcast” to face the new challenges of the media industry using innovation and creativity. Antena 3 wants to be wherever its audience is with content adapted for three screens: television, computer and mobile phone. The wave of new television channels, technological advances, audience fragmentation, changes in viewing habits and legislative reforms are among the challenges faced by Grupo Antena 3. Antena 3 wanted to not only adapt to the new reality—they wanted to change in order to lead the industry. Additionally, Grupo Antena 3 wanted to proactively expand its services in the Spanish audiovisual market.

Antena 3 turned to Accenture to help them develop an innovative service that would transform all of their video libraries and archives into an audiovisual multi-client cluster service. This new service would provide content in any format to news agencies and other broadcasters for a fee. This brings fresh monetization opportunities and opens new avenues for synergies with broadcasters in their market. Understanding the importance of helping Antena 3 transition in a fully digital environment, Accenture and Grupo Antena 3 collaborated to define a new relationship. Antena 3 outsourced its document and archiving activities to Accenture, allowing Antena 3 to focus its resources on increasing its penetration and presence in the Spanish market.

How Accenture helped Accenture’s new Custom BPO service— Accenture Documentación—now runs the video library and historical archive for Grupo Antena 3, and is responsible for the preservation of the historical video library and management of all cataloged content for news, sports and programs

for the Spanish multimedia group. In the first year, Accenture generated more than 50,000 hours of documented content and catalogued more than 200,000 hours of audiovisual material, managed over 300,000 video tapes and introduced more than 70 assets into the Grupo Antena 3 archives each day. Provided services include: Reception and Preservation Content Responsibility for acquisition processes for all entry material from any type or source, including internal, production materials from third parties, news, and news feeds as well as guaranteeing the preservation of historical archive and libraries. High Performance delivered Accenture research shows that highperformance businesses continually balance, align and renew themselves and create their competitive essence through a combination of insight and action. High performers choose highly distinctive, value-added activities for their corporate core, and then build a business that benefits from the core unit. Accenture is now working with Antena 3 to help formulate a roadmap to transform Antena 3’s end-to-end business processes for archival assets into a service-oriented organization. The new organization—Accenture Documentación—with its specialized team of 50 people, took the existing historical videotape archive and document library and is making it into a multi-client and

service oriented company. This new organization provides services to Antena 3 groups—three daily news programs and five news and sports feeds—and other production groups, as well as outside parties. Further, Accenture will take a complete assessment of the archive storage strategy and identified key factors necessary to allow the digitalization of Grupo Antena 3 archives to continue faster with reduced time to access information, produce material for the archives and realize revenues for these new services, in a more efficient and flexible way. With help from Accenture, Antena 3 will introduce all of its work assets into a digital environment and fully utilize its archival resources. Thanks to the new service-oriented organization, Grupo Antena 3 will continue to have the specialized documental services and will also be able to quickly locate the archive assets regardless of where they are stored, as well as sell them to interested third parties.
