In 2009 GNLU launched the GNLU Annual International Moot Court Competition, an event that brings together students from around the world to test their legal acumen and capabilities while exposing them to new and interesting branches of international law. The event has since gained international recognition and is on the lists of moot court competitions that are maintained by the American Society of International Law (ASIL), the International Law Students Association (ILSA) and the Asian Society of International Law (Asian SIL). Envisaged as an annual event, GIMC has been successfully held over the last 3 years. In each edition of GIMC, GNLU has set a high scholastic standard and thereafter persevered to surpass it. The 3rd Annual GNLU International Moot Court Competition held in 2011 had 35 participants from some of the leading law schools in India and a University from the United States of America. Some aspects of the GIMC experience are:
Participants interact with luminaries from the legal fraternity and allied areas as the event involves lawyers, jurists, and educationists not just from India, but all across world.
Each round is followed by a feed-back session. The feed-back sessions were first introduced in GIMC ’10. They give students a chance to understand their strengths and weaknesses. This guidance and advice helps students rectify mistakes during the course of the event, paving the way for growth, betterment and development.
The problems of GIMC are based on a combination of Public International Law and International Trade Law, laws that are extremely significant in a rapidly globalizing world which requires a quick understanding and analysis of the ramifications and problems of increased cross-border trade and commerce.
