The word Halloween is a shortening of All Hallows'

Evening also known as Hallowe'en or All Hallows' Eve. What happens on Halloween? 

Children wear scary costumes and they go to peoples' homes saying "Trick or treat!" to ask for sweets and then people give it to them.



This sometimes involves a threat. In this case the threat is: "Give me a treat or I will play a trick on you."



Children today do not usually play tricks if they do not get treats. However, some children are still naughty.



Halloween also involves bonfires, costume parties, carving pumpkins.

Where did Halloween come from? Many people think Halloween was started by the Scottish and Irish, who took it to other places such as the United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. Through television many other places are also learning about Halloween.
