Happy New Year! 2013 was an busy year for Cranstons with the supermarket horse meat scandal, a hot summer (finally!) and the build and launch of our new Food Hall at Orton Grange. 2014 looks set to be an equally exciting year as we celebrate our centenary and strive to deliver the same butchery expertise and quality local produce that you have come to expect from us. Cranstons had a great close to the year, winning the title ‘Best Retailer in Cumbria’ at the CN Group business awards and scooping a whopping 5 Q Guild Gold Awards! Winning products: Chicken, Sage & Onion Pie, Chicken Wellington, Dry Cured Streaky Bacon, Cumberland Sausage and Steak Burger. Cranstons Food Hall at Orton Grange proving a hit! Our newest shop opened its doors on 19th November. The queues were enormous prior to the doors opening and we gave out 500 slices of our giant opening day cake in less than 2 hours! Thank you to all those who have visited the shop so far. Herdwick on the Menu Our Cumbrian Food Halls will be stocking Herdwick Lamb bred and reared on the Lakeland fells during February & March, giving you a chance to try this iconic breed famed for its succulent texture and slightly gamey flavour. Herdwick lamb will also be available to order from our other shops - simply ask one of the butchers. Lakeland Herdwick was recently granted protected origin status by the EU, placing it alongside other wonderful regional products like Jersey Royals and our own Traditional Cumberland Sausage. Say it with a Steak Valentine’s Day (Friday 14th February) is fast approaching and whether you’re a die hard romantic or not it’s a great excuse to treat yourself and a loved one to one of our superb steaks. Our weekly 2 for £10 Friday Steak Night promotion has an ever-growing fan club and is now available in all our shops with the exception of Penrith King Street.

We are thrilled to have smashed last year’s total of £2,677, helping a truly wonderful local hospice care for local people in their own homes.

iNStRUCtiONS · Pre-heat the oven to Gas 5 / 190˚C / 375F · Toss together in a large roasting pan the garlic, cumin, butternut squash or sweet potato, rosemary, oil, new potatoes, parsnips and dried chilli flakes. · Bake this in the oven for 15 minutes then add the sausages and cook for a further 30 - 35 minutes until the sausages are golden brown and the vegetables are soft. · Serve with a chunky fruit chutney and warm crusty bread.
