Course description: The Edexcel Level 3 BTEC National Diploma in Health and Social Care, consists of eight mandatory units, plus a selection of at least four additional optional units to be completed over the two years. The mandatory units are: Unit 1 Develop Effective Communication in Health and Social Care Unit 2 Equality, Diversity and Rights in Health and Social Care Unit 3 Health, Safety and Security in Health and Social Care Unit 4 Development Through the Life Stages Unit 5 Anatomy and Physiology for Health and Social Care Unit 6 Exploring Personal and Professional Development in Health and Social Care Unit 7 Sociological Perspectives for Health and Social Care Unit 8 Psychological Perspectives for Health and Social Care Assessment: All Edexcel BTEC National units are internally assessed. Assessment is criterion referenced, based on the achievement of specified learning outcomes. Each unit has specified criteria which are to be used for grading. A summative unit grade can be awarded at pass, merit or distinction, distinction star. This Diploma is equivalent to 2 A Levels. Special Requirements: Appropriate work experience is required as it enables learning to be as active, practical and workrelated as possible. Career and Progression Opportunities: The BTEC Nationals in Health and Social Care have been developed in the health and social care sectors and is appropriate for career qualifications in these employment areas. It gives students the opportunity to gain a nationally recognised vocationally specific qualification to enter employment in the health and social care sectors or to progress to higher education vocational qualifications such as the Edexcel Level 5 BTEC Higher National in Health and Social Care.
