Health Informatics A new offering from the Flinders University Department inspiring achievement of Health Care Management
This 5 day course can be taken as a free-standing ‘short course’ or, in combination with assessment activities, as a 4.5-unit topic (HACM9206) in the Flinders Master of Health Administration program.

Clinicians and managers working in the health sector, as well as IT professionals involved in developing and implementing system related to health care delivery.
On completion of this course, participants should be able to:
Presenter This short course will be facilitated by Mark Brommeyer. Mark has a long career as a health professional and consultant and is actively involved in current developments in health informatics in Australia. He has also delivered highly successful workshops on Health Informatics and Quality and Safety in Health Care in the Flinders-Nankai Master of Hospital Administration program in China.
• understand the essential elements of health informatics in terms of: data, information, knowledge, and decisions, • explain the processes of sourcing, accessing and storing electronic information; aggregating, linking and benchmarking information; and visualising data to construct meaning, • apply the elements of health informatics in addressing a health issue/problem, considering the clinical, administrative and technical implications, • predict the clinical, administrative and technical impact when applying health informatics, and
Mark will be assisted by guest speakers with relevant and current industry experience. In addition it is planned to hold an evening forum during the week open to health care managers and students, to which guest speakers will be invited to discuss recent developments in health informatics in South Australia.

This short course is aimed at enhancing participants’ understanding of current developments in health informatics and their potential impact on the delivery of local health care services; and to assist participants in developing a set of skills for making operational and strategic management decisions in relation to health informatics.
A certificate of completion will be awarded to participants who successfully complete the assessment requirements. Please note: Credit will be granted towards Health Care Management awards at Flinders University for successful completion of this short course, including the assessable components.
Certificate of participation A certificate of participation will be awarded to all participants who attend the course but who do not wish to complete the assessment tasks.
Current students can enrol in this topic as an elective in their course.

Students enrolled in Flinders University Health Care Management awards should enrol online in the topic HACM9206 pay fees to Flinders University in the normal way and also submit the registration form to the course administrator (but with no payment). Cost: $1,850 (GST inclusive) Cost includes course materials and lunch and refreshments which will be provided each day. Students currently enrolled in Health Care Management at Flinders University and staff employed by the SA Health Department will receive a 15% discount on fees. Payment can be made either by cheque or credit card.
