1. INTRODUCTION Peripheral arterial disease is a chronic disorder which affects blood flow to lower limbs. Intermittent claudication decreases blood flow to lower limbs. Heart Rate Variability is a non-invasive tool for determining cardiovascular function.

THE AIM: to investigate whether HRV could be a marker of the state of the disease in intermittent claudication.

4. DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION RMSSD and SampEn parameters of HRV are not a valid method for researching the state of the disease in intermittent claudication. The sensibility of these methods is not enough accurate for detecting differences between controls and claudicants. Despite HRV is recommended for screening cardiovascular diseases, this study concludes that it does not provide useful information in intermittent claudication in terms of rMSSD and SampEn.
