HEATING & COOLING H E AT P U MP DAIKIN HEAT PUMPS: COMBINING EFFICIENCY AND TOTAL COMFORT At Daikin, we put our more than 50 years of experience in advanced heat pump technology at your service. Our new generation of heat pumps are all-in-one heating and cooling solutions for residential and commercial applications. They see to it that temperatures are comfortably warm in the winter and cool in summer. Because our systems extract thermal energy from the ambient air (so-called air-to-air or air-to-water heat pumps), they are far more energy efficient and emit far less CO2 than comparable fossil fuel based boiler systems. HOW ENERGY EFFICIENT ARE OUR HEAT PUMPS? A heat pump’s efficiency is measured in COP (Coefficient of Performance) for heating and EER (Energy efficiency ratio) for cooling. Daikin’s heat pumps achieve COPs and EERs of up to 4, meaning one unit of consumed energy yields 4 units of heated or cooled energy.
H E AT R E COV ERY HEAT PUMP OR HEAT RECOVERY SYSTEM? If you are looking for comfort solutions to heat and/or cool your shop, office or industrial building, we at Daikin have a lot to offer. Our highly efficient heat pumps can either heat or cool, while our heat recoveryequipped systems provide simultaneous heating and cooling, all from a single system. We offer numerous heat pumps and heat recovery systems to match your needs. They come in configurations from as small as 2kW for single room solutions, up to several MW’s for large industrial applications.
WHAT IS HEAT RECOVERY? Heat recovery is achieved by diverting exhaust heat from indoor units in cooling mode to areas requiring heating. Heat recovery in other words helps you reuse the energy available in one or more areas, and dispatch it to other areas in the same building. With a COP (Coefficient of Performance) up to 9, heat recovery systems achieve one of the highest energy efficiency levels in the industry. 8

ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS EU recognises heatpumps The approval of the Renewable Energy Directive by the European Parliament in December 2008 saw Daikin’s efforts rewarded for designing energy-efficient air-to-water and air-to-air heat pumps. In its quest for ever more energy-efficient heating products, Daikin develops heat pumps that meet all the user’s needs and consume considerably less primary energy than its fossil-fuel based competitors. For the first time, the Directive recognises also aerothermal and hydrothermal energy as renewable energy sources. With the recognition by the EU of the outside air, ground and (surface, lake or well) water as renewable energy sources, much is expected of the member states’ promotion of heat pump technologies using these renewable energy sources. Alongside with solar panels and wind turbines, heat pumps may also be considered for subsidies, promotion campaigns and tax benefits. The goal of the EU is to increase the share of renewable energy in Europe to 20% by 2020.” The urgency of the EU’s 20/20/20 objectives – reducing carbon emissions and energy consumption by 20% and increasing the share of renewable energy by 20%, all by 2020 – and the fact that heat pumps can contribute directly to meeting these ambitious objectives, present a major opportunity for heat pumps.

ENERGY EFFICIENT EQUIPMENT Many product innovations stem from Daikin environmental awareness. Inverter control reduces unit start up time and varies compressor output to match precise system load requirements. Also, when linked with Daikin DC compressor motors, it allows Daikin equipment to achieve the highest COP ratings in the market. Similarly, advanced computerised control packages ensure optimum system efficiency at all times and allow remote monitoring via the internet. REDUCING WASTE Daikin was the first European air conditioning manufacturer to gain ISO14001 environmental certification and all Daikin plants and subsidiaries are now similarly certified. The company’s zero waste policy ensures that many of its manufacturing by products can be recycled, reused or recovered. RECYCLING MATERIALS Daikin recycles materials as a matter of course. For instance, the sludge recovered from pre treated waste water is used in cement manufacture. The recycling of other types of waste is also supported by investment in returnable packaging.

ECO-LABEL Over the past ten years, the "Flower" has become a European-wide symbol for products, providing simple and accurate guidance to consumers. All products bearing the "Flower" have been checked by independent bodies for complying with strict ecological and performance criteria. There are currently twenty-six different product groups, and already more than 250 licences have been awarded for several hundred products. The EU Eco-label is administered by the European Eco-labelling Board (EUEB) and receives the support of the European Commission, all Member States of the European Union and the European Economic Area (EEA). The Eco-labelling Board includes representatives such as industry, environment protection groups and consumer organisations. Heat-pumps have recently been added as a product group and Daikin is the first company to obtain the Eco-label for its Daikin Altherma air to water heat pumps. The EU awards a heat pump with an Eco-label when they evaluate it to be more energy efficient compared to the average of heat pumps without Eco-label. In being awarded the EU Eco-label, Daikin Altherma was assessed in a range of categories: heating and cooling efficiency, refrigerant global warming potential (GWP), noise, absence of RoHS substances, training, documentation, availability of spare parts and detailed information at point of sale. Daikin Altherma represents the culmination of Daikin’s decades-long experience with heat pump technology. It efficiently extracts the low-level heat in the ambient air and raises it to temperatures capable of comfortably heating a house and providing domestic hot water in outdoor temperatures down to -20º C. In doing so, Daikin Altherma makes use of aerothermal energy, a renewable energy source. The heat pump technology employed is highly efficient (3 to 5 kWh of heat for every 1 kWh of electricity consumed). Daikin Europe N.V. obtained an Eco-Label for the following Daikin Altherma products valid for application with outlet temperature 35°C.

ENERGY LABELLING Energy labelling is part of a European Climate Change program, targeting energy efficiency as one method of reducing CO2 emissions. The European Commission determines that improved awareness will enable users to purchase the most ecologically economic unit for their needs.
Energy efficiency class of the unit in cooling mode:
WHAT? The label provides information on air conditioning unit energy consumption. Units with cooling capacities up to 12kW are classified by energy consumption in categories from ‘A’ to ‘G’ and colour coded accordingly. The most energy efficient ‘A’ category units are indicated by a dark green arrow and the least efficient ‘G’ category units, by a red arrow. Thus users can compare the efficiencies of equal types of unit from different brands. WHAT IS LISTED ON THE LABEL Manufacturer’s name and logo and type of indoor and outdoor units (*).

INDICATED ANNUAL ENERGY CONSUMPTION Approximate annual energy consumed is indicated, based on a standard residential model. Annual consumption is calculated by multiplying total power input by an average of 500 hr/year IN COOLING MODE AT FULL LOAD. Annual energy consumption cost is calculated by multiplying this figure by user’s electricity tariff.
Energy Manufacturer Outside unit Inside unit More efficient
A B C D E
COOLING OUTPUT Is the unit’s cooling capacity in kW operating in cooling mode at full load. Users should select a unit with a rated output sufficient for their cooling/ heating requirements. Oversized units can increase on/off cycling, shortening service life and undersized units will not provide adequate cooling or heating. Output figures can be obtained from the manufacturer or local dealer. ENERGY EFFICIENCY RATIO (EER) Is the unit’s cooling output divided by the total electrical power input required to deliver it – the higher the EER, the greater the energy efficiency. TYPE Indicates whether the unit is a cooling only or cooling/heating model. Cooling mode indicates whether the unit is water or air cooled. HEAT OUTPUT Is the heating capacity of the unit in kW, operating in heating mode at full load.

Air-conditioner Energy Label Directive 2002/31/EC
SEASONAL EFFICIENCY With European legislation* pressing energy users to drastically cut energy consumption, improve energy efficiency of buildings and homes, and meet the Commission’s 20/20/20 targets, industry is looking at more appropriate ways to evaluate efficiency. Thus, the new EuP Eco-Design Directive aims at reducing the environmental impact of products in the EU. To that end it will introduce a new calculation method for measuring performance – seasonal efficiency – in replacement of the current method of nominal efficiency, which has its limitations. NOMINAL EFFICIENCY UP FOR IMPROVEMENT Measuring environmental performance is not new to Europe. Such measurements are used to set minimum requirements for manufacturers and to provide consumers with information on air conditioner performance so they can make intelligent choices when purchasing. The measurement method currently in place is that of nominal efficiency, a method, however, with limitations that result in a significant gap between rated and actual performance.
Temperature distribution curve Occurrence
r Temperature
r Current point for COP Current point for EER Heating Cooling
SEASONAL EFFICIENCY IN LINE WITH REAL-LIFE PERFORMANCE To correct this situation, a more complex measurement – seasonal efficiency – is being developed in the EuP Directive. The major differences between seasonal and nominal calculation are: › The use of several rating temperatures for cooling and heating instead of one nominal temperature, better reflecting actual performance over an entire season › Integration of operation at partial capacity instead of full capacity. › Adoption of the seasonal efficiency calculation method will result in a better estimation of the reallife performance of a unit since the majority of systems operate at partial load most of the time.
Daikin has identified the Sky Air® as the product range with the strongest potential environmental impact. Indeed, light commercial applications are responsible for the biggest energy use on a yearly basis, and this due to the high sales volume and the high number of running hours per year.
NOMINAL
In addition, the new seasonal efficiency calculation will take into consideration the power consumed by devices in auxiliary modes (when the compressor is off ). Seen over a year, energy consumption in these modes can be substantial.

DAIKIN SOLUTIONS TO R-22 PHASE OUT Due to significant developments in heat pump technology, older systems of air conditioning run less efficiently than those available today. Furthermore the use of R-22 will be soon banned in Europe. To upgrade R-22 systems as cost effective as possible: Daikin developed solutions for its commercial range. Thanks to this new technology, it is possible to use existing R22-piping. WHAT IS R-22 AND WHY IS IT PHASED-OUT IN EUROPE? R-22 is a hydrochlorofluorocarbon (HCFC) which was commonly used in air conditioning systems. When R-22 is released into the air, the ultraviolet rays of the sun cause it to decompose and chlorine is released in the stratosphere. Chlorine reacts with ozone, reducing the amount of the ozone. Due to ozone layer depletion, harmful ultraviolet rays reach the surface of the earth giving rise to a number of health and environmental issues. The international community therefore, signed the Montreal Protocol to phase out ozone depletion materials by 2030. The European Union however, decided to ban R-22 already in 2015.

WHAT IS THE IMPACT ON AN R-22 INSTALLATION? The R-22 phase-out regulation will impact on all currently operating R-22 systems, although reliable R-22 equipment does not need to be replaced immediately because maintenance can be carried out with recycled or reclaimed R-22 until January 1st, 2015. However, as currently not enough R-22 is reclaimed to cover the demand, supply shortages and price increases are expected. If there is no reclaimed R-22 available certain repairs (for example: compressor change) are no longer possible and considerable air conditioning system downtime can occur. It is therefore worthwhile to consider a replacement system before 2015, especially for air conditioning systems with a large impact on the daily running of the business. DAIKIN SOLUTIONS TO R-22 PHASE-OUT For Sky Air®, re-use technology is already available on the Super Inverter and will also be available on the new Seasonal Inverter. Thanks to this technology these units can be installed using existing R-22 piping. The newly developed VRV®III-Q solution allows retaining existing R-22 piping and in some cases even the indoor units and controllers. 14

People are becoming more and more aware of the cost of heating. Traditional heating systems and boilers use fossil fuels, making them an expensive and not sustainable option for the environment. Nobody wants to waste their money. Since approximately two thirds of the heat generated by the Daikin heat pump systems, is free of charge, the perfect solution is just around the corner. Moreover, since heat pumps consume less energy than traditional heating systems, they also generate less CO 2 emissions. Air to water and air to air heat pumps use energy from renewable sources: the ambient air. These energy sources are renewable and inexhaustible. Of course, heat pumps also need energy to function (mostly electricity), but increasingly this electricity can also be generated from renewable energy sources (solar energy, wind energy, hydropower, biomass) It is no surprise that people throughout Europe are becoming aware of new heating technology. In less than a decade practically all properly insulated buildings from Italy to Norway will be heated with heat pumps. Millions of heat pumps have already been installed in residential and commercial applications. So… why wait? 95% of our air conditioning equipment can heat and/or cool and thus are heat pumps. The products in this chapter are optimised heating solutions as their primary scope and purpose is heating.

DAIKIN ALTHERMA - LOW TEMPERATURE (LT)
HOW DOES THE DAIKIN ALTHERMA AIR TO WATER HEAT PUMP WORK? Daikin Altherma LT Split 1A / OUTDOOR UNIT :
1B / INDOOR UNIT :
AN EFFICIENT USE OF ENERGY FROM THE AIR
THE HEART OF THE DAIKIN ALTHERMA SYSTEM
Daikin Altherma uses a natural source of energy. The outdoor unit extracts heat from the outside air and raises its temperature to a level high enough to supply heating. This heat is then transferred to the indoor unit through refrigerant pipes (thus, the additional advantage is that the pipes can never freeze). The compact outdoor unit is easily installed and, as no drilling or excavation work is required, it can also be installed in flats and apartments.
The indoor unit heats the water that circulates through low temperature radiators, floor heating systems or fan coil units and also provides domestic hot water. If you opt for the combination of heating and cooling, then the indoor unit can also decrease the water temperature to distribute a refreshing coolness.
3 / DOMESTIC HOT WATER TANK : FOR LOW ENERGY CONSUMPTION As for your domestic hot water, Daikin Altherma is just as clever. The unique lay-out and special placement of the system components maximise energy efficiency. The water inside the storage tank is primarily warmed up by thermal energy from the outside air, thanks to a heat exchanger connected to the heat pump. However, an additional electrical heating element in the domestic water tank
5 / Solar collector
can take care of extra heat required in the shower, tub or sink. At necessary intervals the water is automatically heated to 70°C to prevent the risk of bacteria growth. With Daikin Altherma you can enjoy delightfully warm and perfectly safe water at all times. Depending on the daily consumption of hot water, Daikin Altherma domestic hot water tanks are available in different sizes.

Daikin Altherma LT Monobloc 2 / MONOBLOC OUTDOOR UNIT: ALL IN ONE In addition to Daikin Altherma outdoor and indoor unit systems, Daikin has introduced a monobloc version in which all hydraulic parts are located within the outdoor unit.
In this new system the water pipes, rather than refrigerant lines, run indoors from the outdoor unit, making installation much quicker and easier for the installer.
4 / SOLAR KIT optional
6 / ROOM THERMOSTAT optional
The solar kit provides the transfer of solar heat to the Daikin Altherma hot water tank via an external heat exchanger. In contrast to tanks with two heat exchangers, this system allows the entire content of the tank to be efficiently heated with solar heat and, if necessary, with heat pump energy.
With the wired or wireless room thermostat, the ideal temperature can be easily, quickly and conveniently regulated. An external sensor (EKRTETS) can be placed between the under floor heating and the floor, as an option to the wireless room thermostat. It allows for more precise measurement and can regulate the comfort level of your customer even more optimally and energy efficiently. *EKRTW for wired wall-mounting and EKRTR for the wireless type.
5 / SOLAR COLLECTOR optional The high-efficiency collectors transfer all the short-wave solar radiation into heat as a result of their highly selective coating. The collectors can be mounted on the roof tiles.

DAIKIN ALTHERMA - HIGH TEMPERATURE (HT)
1 AIR TO WATER HEAT PUMP A / OUTDOOR UNIT: AN EFFICIENT USE OF ENERGY FROM THE AIR The outdoor unit extracts heat from the ambient outdoor air. This heat is transferred to the indoor unit via refrigerant piping. B / INDOOR UNIT: THE HEART OF THE DAIKIN ALTHERMA SYSTEM The indoor unit receives the heat from the outdoor unit and further increases the temperature, allowing water temperatures up to 80°C for heating through radiators (field supply) and for domestic hot water use. Daikin’s unique cascade compressor approach to the heat pumps (one in the outdoor unit/one in the indoor unit) means optimum comfort at even the coldest outdoor temperatures, without the need for an electric back up heater.
2 DOMESTIC HOT WATER TANK: FOR LOW ENERGY CONSUMPTION Daikin Altherma’s high water temperature is ideal for heating domestic hot water without the need for an additional electric heater. Rapid heating of domestic hot water also means smaller boilers are needed. For a family of approximately 4 people, the standard tank (EKHTS200A) is the best solution. Should you require more hot water, a larger tank is also available.
28
HEATING AND DOMESTIC HOT WATER WITH SOLAR ENERGY The Daikin Altherma high temperature heating system can optionally use solar energy for hot water production. If the solar energy is not required immediately, the purpose-built hot water tank (EKHWP) can store large quantities of heated water for up to a day for later use as domestic hot water or for heating. Solar collector
Indoor unit and Domestic hot water tank
3 USER INTERFACE With Daikin Altherma’s user interface, the ideal temperature can be easily, quickly and conveniently regulated. It allows for more precise measurement and can regulate your comfort even more optimally and energy efficiently.

HEAT PUMP CONVECTOR FOR LOW TEMPERATURE APPLICATIONS
Daikin’s heat pump convector with interlink function addresses a common heating efficiency problem. In well-insulated new residences, a combination of under floor heating and low temperature radiators is one of the most efficient heating solutions on the market. This solution, however, is not perfect. The low leaving water temperatures important for efficiency are adequate for under floor heating, but the room radiators (in e.g. bedrooms) then need to be oversized in order to emit the proper levels of heat at these low water temperatures. To address this issue, a heat pump convector solution with an interlink function is introduced. The heat pump convector is able to emit the required levels of heat at low leaving water temperatures, while retaining a modest size. Instead of the leaving water circuit being switched on and off via a thermostat in a single master room, each convector can be directly wired to the Daikin Altherma indoor unit, the system’s intelligence centre. This allows all rooms to have heat when required, regardless of the state of the other rooms.
