During the activity hour the campers will enjoy drama, computers, art, crafts, tie-dye, frappe café, and many more. Activities may vary from week to week. Class Title and Description (listed in alphabetical order) Abrakadoodle: This popular art program helps kids stretch their creative muscles and exercise their right brains in actionoriented classes filled with color, texture, shape and fun! Our art lessons are carefully crafted to promote uniqueness and imaginative thinking as kids create their own unique masterpieces through painting, drawing, cutting, molding and exploring creative materials. Each lesson introduces a new technique and artist's style. Maximum: 15 students Vendor: Abrakadoodle Cost: $170 Rising K- rising 7th A Cool and Creative Adventure with Words: Join us for an adventure with words! Campers will begin each day with an author study followed by a creative writing session and/or activity. Campers will write about books, create their own stories, and turn words into poetry. They will create dynamic characters for their story and illustrate them using 2-liter soda bottles and will turn empty shoe boxes into eye-catching 3-D scenes. Finish the camp with an official author party, performance, and exhibition of your work. Maximum: 15 students Teacher: Jacque Womack Cost: $150 + supply fee $5 Rising 1st-3rd Adventures from "The Daring Book for Girls" Making friendship bracelets, hiking, and learning how to be a spy are only some of the fun experiences you'll have in this class. "The Daring Book for Girls" is full of fun ideas that we'll share and learn together. Each girl will get her own Chinese jump rope and we’ll learn various jumping chants and techniques. Take this class if you dare! We will also learn about and play stickball, explore the world of dinosaurs, skip stones and make water bombs at Pimmit Run, and learn about some famous battles, followed by a game of "Risk." Arts and Crafts from Around the World: Get ready to expand your horizons and understand the world around us by discovering art and literature from other countries. Campers will be exposed to art and literature from various countries and will create daily their own piece of art representative of the target culture. Maximum: 15 students Teacher: Eva Townsend Cost: $120 + supply fee $10 Rising 4th-7th A Summer in French: Practice makes perfection. From numbers and colors to parts of the body, you will enjoy learning, practicing, and exploring the beautiful French language. With visuals, music, interactive games and various hands-on activities, and craft projects you will learn or polish some French. This camp is great for campers joining the French Immersion classes as well as for those students who want to be exposed to the language spoken in our school. Even if you know a little bit of French this class will provide you with plenty of opportunities to use the language. We will have a last day celebrations with crêpes. What a great exercise! Come and learn how to ride your bike safely around the neighborhood and to school. Safety procedures, basic maintenance, learning how to ride around obstacles, and much more. Student must bring their own bike and helmet. They could leave their bikes in a secure classroom overnight for the duration of the class. The bridge building competitions will give you the opportunity to understand what it is to be an engineer. Throughout this process, you will be actively involved in constructing and applying mathematical ideas, understanding the reasoning of bridge constructions, learning to work as a team, and expanding problem-solving skills. The scores will be based on strength, aesthetics, and construction of the bridge. If so, please join us for this musical theatre adventure. Take your energy to the stage as we learn to sing and dance to familiar Broadway showtunes. Have fun as we learn a few acting games and use our body to portray different characters. Even after 4 sessions we will present a short performance at the end of the week. Get ready to move!! Have you ever wanted to build and test a model rocket or build a contraption that would keep an egg from breaking if dropped from a second floor window? How many math books could be supported by a bridge of only marshmallows and toothpicks? Or a contraption made from only duct tape? If you have the burning desire to answer any of these questions, it is time for you to get creative and start building! Design it, build it, test it! Children will work on cheer dance motions, jumps, posture, flexibility and conditioning. Friends and family are invited to attend the session-ending Pep Rally, where kids will showcase their new-found talent. You will learn the relationship between letters (graphemes) of written language and the individual sounds (phonemes) of spoken language and how to use these relationships to read and write words. Practice phonemic relationships of letter-sound associations, letter-sound correspondences, sound-symbol correspondence and sound-spelling. Phonics instruction will help you learn to Explode the Code of letters, sounds, and words. Fundamentals of all positions on offense, defense and special teams will be taught. House of Hoops Basketball: Bend your knees and shoot with your wrist! This camp is all about basketball skills to raise your fitness while learning the basics and techniques to become a better player. Experienced coaches will help you improve skills through practice for enjoyment, social interaction and personal challenge. Students will be taught the rules and fundamentals of the game. In addition, they will get the opportunity to demonstrate those learned fundamentals in scrimmages, and skill competitions. They will learn about the history of the game and key players of the past and present. There will be prizes, fun, and so much more. No previous experience is required. Maximum: 20 students Vendor: Hoop Life Cost: week 1 $140 weeks 2-5 $170 Rising K-7th IPad 101 and Beyond: The possibilities are limitless when it comes to modern day technology. In this class students will be able to explore a variety of iPad apps that vary by grade level. This will include a combination of academic, media based, and of course gaming apps. Challenge your math skills one day and create your own cartoon or mini movie the next! (iPads will be provided, already loaded with necessary apps.) Maximum: 15 students Teacher: Bryan Pashong Cost: $150 Rising 4th -7th In the Kitchen with an IPad: Let your young chef help prepare meals at home. Each day, the children will learn to prepare a different recipe such as homemade pancakes, homemade spaghetti sauce, mashed potatoes, cake batter fudge, Éclair cake, and snickers salad. Student will learn how to research the best recipe to prepare based on one main ingredient and will start their collection of recipes using the IPad app My Recipe Book. They will also learn about kitchen safety, hygiene, nutrition and helpful hints to make cooking easier. Take home your finished necklace, bracelet, and dangly earrings, each demonstrating your mastery of different beading techniques. Campers will learn how to visualize, measure, and design an appealing piece of jewelry using bead knotting, stringing, and clasp finishing techniques. This summer, you can use your imagination and make amazing discoveries when you become a real scientist. Learn tricks like how to fit a hardboiled egg into a bottle and many more. Take home your experiments and the recipes to make them again! Music Video Production: Do you love music? Would you love to be a music engineer? Come and learn music technology basic skills for today’s music world. Campers will use Mixcraft Acoustica to create, record, act, and film their own music. Maximum: 15 students Teacher: Darrow White Cost: $120 + supply fee $5 Rising 4th-7th Outdoor Fun and Fitness: There are so many fun ways to play outside and keep your body healthy. We'll be making an obstacle course, learning new games, hiking in the Kent Gardens Park, and creating a fitness circuit. We'll also learn how to stay hydrated when it's hot outside and why it's important. So come have fun and be fit! Campers will gain an understanding of how story elements improve your story while developing literacy abilities and encouraging creative-thinking. Learn how to make little books, shape books, and how to decorate a book to tell a story. By the end of the week the students will complete one small project such as a bag, a table runner, a quilted bedroom door sign, among other choices. In this class students will explore the engineering aspect of underwater robotics by planning, building, and testing a miniature underwater rover. As students work in teams they will construct the rover mainframe, fan propellers, and water-tight motors. Lastly they will solder the circuit board, connect the wiring, and prepare for testing! This class is great for students who seek a hands-on connection to the real-life world of engineering! Is Derek Jeter the best hitter in baseball? In order to have an opinion like these, you need to be able to back up your claim with numbers. Join us to learn about sports statistics and how to interpret them. You will conduct your research and then try to persuade the class about who you think is "the best" in sports. You will learn the rules of many sports and how to play properly to prevent injuries. Campers will play many sports including handball, ultimate frisbee, flag football, volleyball, kickball, and one sport of class choice. We will sing old and new songs, songs from other countries, play with rhythm, sing to games, and much more. This class will have you singing every minute! Yoga and art are two of the mediums which help achieve that synchrony. What could be better than to learn the same in a language which is close to your heart? Campers will learn fun, exciting, and highly beneficial yogic postures in French and dabble with colors to reinforce the math concepts of symmetry and geometric forms in an artistic way. This will enable them to keep in touch with French through art and yoga. Come and have a super fun week with two of the most exciting ways of exercising your mind and body. Yoga works on emotional and physical traits by going through poses while being immersed in a calm, centered environment. Poses help children develop concentration, muscle, and coordination by participating in yoga movements, stories, songs, drawings, and games.
