Birth Centenary of Pt. Shriram Sharma Acharya - The Architect of Thought Renaissance

Dear Parents, Gayatri Gyan Kendra of Long Island (GGKLI), is a unique Bal Sanskar Shala (Sunday school) run by Long Island Chapter of Global Gayatri Pariwar. GGKLI is offering unique teaching program to young generation on the basis of scientific spirituality. Students also learn Yoga, Meditaion, Indian Culture, Hindi and Gujarati Languages. GGKLI is not merely a school. It is a unique Bal Sanskar Shala on Long Island which is modeled on the ancient principles of the “Gurukul” system run by the great Rishis and Sages of the past. GGKLI is working toward unleashing the immense potential of the younger generation and directing it onto a righteous path. It is committed to providing an excellent moral, cultural and spiritual; environment for our youngsters. GGKLI’s broad based teaching curriculum includes Development of Sanskars (Character Building), Health (Yoga, Pranayama and Meditation), Jivan Vidya (JivanSadhana), Service to Society, Vendanta Dharma and Divine Rishi Indian Culture. The whole teaching program is framed with a view to teach more spirituality based on science rather than rituals. The students in GGKLI will also learn two Indian languages –Hindi and Gujarati besides the above subjects. The Indian Cultures and scientific Spirituality class is divided into 7 levels depending on the school grade level and age of the student. Hindi and Gujarati are also taught at 5 and 3 levels respectively. Students from Pre-KG (4 years) to High School level (15 Years) can register for the program. GGKLI started in 2006 with only 20 students. Today within a short span of 6 years, GGKLI has an enrollment of 170 students for the year 2011-12 school year. In order to accept all of our incoming students we have rented 12 state of the art classrooms and one big Gymnasium of St. Anthony’s High School, South Huntington, New York for the year 2012-13. We expect to reach more than 200 students enrollment in the next school year. GGKLI is projecting enrollment of 500 students in coming 5 years and also planning to cater to each and every deserving youngster of Long Island in future. Some of the achievements and highlights from the current school year include students’ commitment for the environment and saving the future of this planet. They donated $ 2,011 for tree plantation in India in the year 2011 and sponsored two students to go to the college. They also planted Tulsi plant in the pot along with 125 Pine trees in their backyards. Our youngest student who is 5 years old earned money by doing extra chores and collected $5 which he donated for students in India. To us this is more than rich people donating millions of dollars. We have shaped his future and the love of giving at this young age. Another student asked all his family and friends to donate money to his charity rather than gifts for his birthday and thus donated $360. Our students volunteer countless hours to charities, Asian American Associations and Shanti Fund organization. They take part in numerous performances at various places in NY and NJ to promote pride in Indian Culture. The entire GGKLI is a non-profit organization that is run by the teacher and parent volunteers. GGKLI is where it is today due to the dedication and countless hours put forth by the many volunteers of the Gayatri Pariwar of Long Island. As we enter the 7th year of our existence, we are expecting more challenges ahead in the future. The road ahead is not an easy one, but certainly achievable with hard work and cooperation of all of our parents, students and volunteers. We see your support as the key catalyst to this endeavor and it will be even more important in the future. Let us all work together to impart the best knowledge and cultural gems to our future generation, and make the 21st Century into a bright century. The GGKLI is requesting hereby all the parents to get their child/children name registered by August 31st date failing which they will have to wait till the next year. Parents can do online registration and get more information about our school at GGKLI’s website www.gayatripariwarli.org by clicking Gayatri Gyan Kendra and registration or directly at http://www.gayatripariwarli.org/skoli/registration.php Or call 631-254-2749 and 631-741-1886 for further information. Warm regards, Gayatri Gyan Kendra of Long Island Volunteers

ENGLISH TRANSLATION : We have everything in our country; except a real person. As it is, we have a lot of people. The population is also increasing day by day but we do not have people with good character. In today’s world, we do not have Gandhi or Subhashchandra Bose or Lokmanya Tilak or Swami Vivekananda. That is OK. I will mould them and I will do that after I quit this physical body. There is nothing to worry about. I will get it done by you. You won’t have to do anything. I will bring kids of new generation to you. You will sit with them, tell them good stories, make them do sadhanas. I will do the rest. You fix the physical and I will fix the subtle. As it is your responsibility to correct the physical activities, so is it my responsibility to correct the subtle.

SWAMI VIVEKANANDA TO YOUTH Supreme value of youth period is incalculable and indescribable. Youth life is the most precious life. Youth is the best time. The way in which you utilize this period will decide the nature of coming years that lie ahead of you. Your happiness, your success, your honor and your good name all depend upon the way in which you live now, in this present period. Remember this. This wonderful period of the first state of your life is related to you as the soft wet clay in the hands of the potter. Skillfully the potter gives it the right and correct shapes and forms, which he intends to give. Even so, you can wisely mould your life, your character, your physical health and strength, in short your entire nature in any way in which you make up your mind to do. And you must do this now. O fortunate youth, recognize this great duty. Feel this wonderful privilege. Take up this adventure. God watches you graciously, ever ready to help and guide. I wish you to be great. The world has put its faith in you. Your elders keep their hopes in you. Now youth means to place your firm confidence in yourself and exercise your hopeful determination and resolution and willing good intentions in this beautiful task of self-culture. This will truly bring supreme satisfaction and fulfillment not only to you, but also to all concerned. The shaping of your life is indeed in your own hands. Practise virtue, persevere in virtue. Become established in virtue. Shine as an embodiment of noblest virtue and heroic adherence to goodness. Youth is meant for this grand process. Youth life is the active development and fulfillment of these processes. This period of your time provides the suitable and favourable fields for the working out of this extremely important and most indispensable process in life. This is the special significance, the great importance and supreme value of youth life. It signifies the creation of noble personality. It is atma-Viakasa. It is Atma –Nirmana. Please try to understand the correct implication of the term successful life. When you talk of success with reference to life, it does not merely mean succeeding in everything that you undertake or do; it does not merely mean succeeding in fulfilling all wants or getting whatever you desire; it does not just mean acquiring a name or attaining a position or imitating fashionable ways appearing modern or up-to-date. The essence of true success is what you make of yourself. It is the conduct of life that you develop, it is the character that you cultivate and it is the type of person you become. This is the central meaning of successful living. Therefore, you will see this important matter is not so much a question of success in life. ( Jivan – Me- Safalta) but rather it is success of life. Such successful life is one that succeeds in producing an ideal individual, a noble man. Your success is not measured in terms of what all you obtained but in term of what you become, how you live and what actions you do. Upon this point reflect well and attain great happiness. In our grand culture they conceived of life in four stage-preliminary stage, development stage, flowering or blossoming stage and the culminating fruitful stage. These can be described as he preparatory period, the practising period for the satisfactory growth of the latter stage. Yours is the stage of preliminary preparations for right and successful living. Herein is its supreme value and great importance. This is like the ploughing and sowing of seeds in the field by a farmer. Now, you can easily understand, what is the significance and importance of this in connection with the harvest, which any one would wish to reap later on. And also, it is like the laying of the foundation for an important building you wish to construct. If this building is something very important to you, then you just think how much more important its proper foundation becomes in your view. The strong and continued existence of the building depends certainly upon the foundation. This is the stage you are now in. Let your preparations be wise, correct and of such kind that will lead to your true welfare, supreme good and lasting satisfaction and happiness. This must engage your active, enthusiastic attention throughout the period of your youth life. Our culture refers to this stage as the Brahmacharya Ashram or Vidyarthi Jivan. Here, you acquire knowledge of not only subjects like History, Geography, Mathematics, etc., but also about human nature, correct Vyavahara, science of Self- control, art of developing pure mind, Dharma, the duties of man and the proper relationship between you, your family, your society and the world.

It is a great place for the kids not only to know about the Indian culture, but also a place to learn Indian languages and yoga. More importantly kids learn the importance of good qualities - to respect elders, being kind, help others etc to mention few...We are fortunate to have such a wonderful non-profit organization in Long Island, USA. Kudos to all teachers, volunteers and everyone else who make this happen and the time they all devote selflessly for this cause is amazing! THANKS A LOT.....!!

I have a 8 year old and 5 year old attending the GGKLI. This is our first year and we cannot express how happy we are as parents that our children have access to our Indian culture. The volunteers are extremely dedicated and thoroughly professional. They interact with the kids at their level with so much patience and love. Both my kids look forward to coming there. They excitedly tell their grandparents all that they have learned when we call India. Our folks back home cannot believe how much Guajarati and culture they have learned in such a short period. Most of their friends go to Christian and Hebrew schools and GGKLI has now given them the opportunity to learn about their culture and where they come from, and most importantly be proud of it. We thank you and the volunteers from the bottom of our hearts.

I would definitely take this opportunity to thank GGKLI and all the selfless teachers who put in so much time and efforts for our kids. I am so grateful to all of you for educating our kids not only the Indian language but also the Indian culture and our values. It amazes us when our kids talk about karma and our Hindu beliefs. It’s all because of GGKLI that our kids were able to write a letter in Hindi for their grandparents giving them an immense pleasure. Thanks again to GGKLI and its wonderful team.

“This year, even more so than last year, the emphasis has been on the great Indian values of Shistachar (Discipline) and timeliness. Keeping in mind the heritage, upbringing and needs of our students, classes are conducted using an amalgamation of the best of American and Indian values. A special shout out to Hindi Group II. The results are tangible. Our kid is now able to read short Hindi phrases! “

ALL-WORLD GAYATRI PARIWAR THE FOUNDER: PT. SHRIRAM SHARMA ACHARYA Pt. Sriram Sharma Acharya, loving called Gurudev by his followers, was a seer-sage and visionary of the modern era. He initiated a movement for the transformation of the era, lived a disciplined life of devout austerity, visited the Himalayas several times and attained spiritual eminence. He translated the entire Vedic Vangmaya and accomplished the feat of writing more than 3,000 books on all aspects of life. Gurudev’s personality was a harmonious blend of a saint, spiritual scientist, yogi, philosopher, psychologist, writer, reformer, freedom fighter, researcher, eminent scholar and visionary. He pioneered the revival of spirituality and creative integration of the modern and ancient sciences and religion relevant in the challenging circumstances of the present times. In 1979, he founded the Brahmavarchas Research Institute, the research center in Haridwar (India) dedicated to the integration of the modern and ancient sciences in a practical way motivated by the noble goal of health and happiness for all. This center houses well equipped laboratories of Hematology, Biochemistry, Neurophysiology, Cardiology, Phytochemistry, Psychometry, Yagyopathy etc. At the age of 15, (Jan 18th, 1926) a great Himalayan yogi, Swami Sarveshvaranandji appeared before him in astral body from the flame of the Dipaka (lamp) and guided him throughout his entire life. The next 24 years of his life were devoted to 24 Mahapurashcharanas – each consisting of the rhythmic recitation (japa) of 2.4 million Gayatri Mantra with strictest of disciplines. In 1943, he married Bhagwati Devi, and ever since, the saintly couple delicately pursued the noble mission of spiritual upliftment of humankind. Realizing the potential of inspiring literature and its relevance in the present era of intellectual evolution, he had chosen writing as the principal mode towards uprooting the evil tendencies and blind faith from people’s minds and arousing the indwelling wisdom, strength and spiritual bliss. He wrote about 3000 enlightening books in Hindi on almost all topics concerning human life. He translated the entire Vedic Vangmaya (4 Vedas, 108 Upanishads, 18 Puranas, etc.) in Hindi elucidating the tradition, style, universality and history of Vedic Literature. He also practiced higher-level Sadhana on the arduous heights of the Himalayas and established enlivened contact with the Rishis of the Himalayas. During 1984-1986, he carried out the unique spiritual experiment of Sukshmikarana, meaning sublimation of vital force and physical, mental and spiritual energies. He authored a special set of 20 books highlighting the future of the world and conveying the message of the dawn of the New Era of Truth during the 21st Century. On 2nd June 1990, he voluntarily shed his physical sheath.

Regarding the body as the Temple of God, we will be ever watchful to keep it healthy and full of vitality by adopting the principles of selfrestraint, order and harmony in our daily-lives.

3.

With a view to keeping our minds free from the inrush of negative thoughts and emotions, we will adopt a regular program of study of ennobling and inspiring literature (swadhyaya) and of keeping the company of saints (satsang).

4.

We will vigilantly exercise strict control over our senses, thoughts, emotions and in the spending of our time and resources.

5.

We will consider ourselves inseparable parts of the society and will see our good in the good of all.

6.

We will abide by basic moral code, refrain from wrong doing and will discharge our duties as citizens committed to the well-being of the society.

7.

We will earnestly and firmly imbibe in our lives the virtues of Wisdom, Honesty, Responsibility and Courage.

8.

We will constantly and sincerely endeavor to create an environment of loving kindness, cleanliness, simplicity and goodwill.

9.

We will prefer failure while adhering to basic moral principles to so-called success obtained through unfair and foul means.

10. We will never evaluate a person's greatness by his worldly success, talents and riches but by his righteous conduct and thoughts. 11. We will never do unto others what we would not like to be done unto us. 12. Men and women while interacting with each other will have feelings of mutual respect and understanding based on purity of thoughts and emotions. 13. We will regularly and religiously contribute a portion of our time, talents and resources for spreading nobility and righteousness in the world. 14. We will give precedence to discriminating wisdom over blind traditions. 15. We will actively involve ourselves in bringing together people of goodwill, in resisting evil and injustice, and in promoting New Creation. 16. We will remain committed to the principles of national unity and equality of all human beings. In our conduct, we will not make any discrimination between person and person on the basis of caste, creed, color, religion, region, language or sex. 17. We firmly believe that each human being is the maker of his own destiny. With this conviction, we will uplift and transform ourselves and help others in doing so. We believe the world will then automatically change for the better. 18. Our Motto is: 'Hum Badalenge – Yug Badalega', 'Hama Sudharenge – Yuga Sudhrega'. The trends of our times will transform, when we transform ourselves. When we reform ourselves, the world will be reformed.
