Hillcrest, Middle School, and High School Students Flourish at Pittsburgh Regional Science and Engineering Fair High School: Students enrolled in Mr. Brian Nevi’s Science Research Course competed at the Pittsburgh Regional Science and Engineering Fair. Catherine Moran was awarded a scholarship from Clarion University and Mark Patterson was awarded scholarships from Clarion University, IUP, and Mt. Aloysius. The Norwin High School science research course is designed for sophomores, juniors and seniors who plan on pursuing science in college or a career in a scientific field. The course exposes students to components of quality experimental design and research.

Middle School: Cecilia Fidler of Norwin Middle School was awarded the Corporate Sponsor Award (Eaton Corporation) at the Pittsburgh Regional Science & Engineering Fair on March 27, 2015 at Heinz Field. Cecilia’s project was titled, “Is the future of LEDs bright?” Her sponsor was Norwin teacher Mrs. Paula Giran. Hillcrest Intermediate School: Also, three Hillcrest Intermediate School students worked together as a team and won a collegiate award of excellence. They were Kyla Bailey, Sarah Chervenick, and Elizabeth Zapanta.

The Pittsburgh Regional Science & Engineering Fair, a program of Carnegie Science Center's Chevron Center for STEM Education and Career Development, has been a Pittsburgh tradition since 1940. It is the third-oldest science fair in the United States under the affiliation of the Society for Science and the Public. Presenting Sponsors of the Science Fair include FedEx Ground and United States Steel Corporation. Other sponsors include science teachers, corporations, foundations, universities and professional science and technology societies.
