POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT Assistant/Associate Professor in Product Design
POSITION: JMU is accepting applications for a new, full-time tenure track position in product design at the assistant/associate level. PERIOD: Starting August 2012. DESCRIPTION: We are seeking a designer who is strong in design process and a dynamic studio educator. We seek someone with a capacity for new ideas, a hunger for elliptical thinking, a willingness to collaborate, curiosity, the potential for leadership, and habits of reflective practice. We need someone with a broad range of skills, from disciplinary knowledge to curricular development. Knowledge of contemporary issues in industrial design is essential. Coursework developed and implemented by the candidate will revolve around industrial design studios, drawing, fabrication, professional practices, and special topics. The successful candidate will be one who operates with flexibility, vision, capacity, and who can be a force multiplier in a School of applied and fine arts. QUALIFICATIONS: A terminal degree in industrial design or a related field is required, with a strong record of scholarly and professional accomplishments. Candidates should be adept with technologies, both cutting edge and those out of fashion. We seek candidates who want to participate in a collaborative community that fosters independent thought and creativity, embraces the diversity of cultural expression, and cultivates excellence in the making and understanding of visual art. Salary will be commensurate with experience.
