Anyone over school age living or working in Blaenau Gwent, Caerphilly, Merthyr Tydfil, Rhondda Cynon Taf or Torfaen can study with UHOVI. Applicants from outside these counties are welcome to apply for UHOVI courses, subject to availability.

Ein Partneriaid

During 2012 several new part-time programmes will be launched at The College in partnership with Cardiff Met and our FE partners. These include Foundation degrees in Food Science and Technology, Information Technology Management for Business, and Financial Services. These new programmes will contribute to meeting the Welsh Government’s objective of encouraging the development of flexible, accessible learner-centred provision, which increase participation, widen access, develop skills and improve workforce development. These new programmes will meet employer needs and will provide a range of choices of ways to access HE and encourage progression to study at Cardiff Met.

Mae UHOVI (Athrofa Prifysgol Blaenau’r Cymoedd) yn fenter addysgol arloesol a chyffrous sy’n rhoi cyfleoedd newydd i bobl a busnesau lleol. Pwrpas UHOVI yw gwella sgiliau a chymwysterau drwy wneud dysgu yn hygyrch yn lleol. Nid oes wahaniaeth a ydych mewn cyflogaeth ai peidio, ac nid yw cymwysterau bob amser yn angenrheidiol gan ein bod yn ystyried profiadau bywyd a gwaith hefyd. Cynllunnir cyrsiau i fodloni anghenion diwydiannau presennol a rhai sy’n tyfu yn y rhanbarth, felly mae’r hyfforddiant a’r profiad a gewch yn berthnasol i fusnesau lleol. Gyda chefnogaeth Llywodraeth Cymru, mae UHOVI yn bartneriaeth strategol rhwng Prifysgol Morgannwg a Phrifysgol Cymru, Casnewydd. Mae UHOVI yn gweithio’n agos gyda cholegau addysg bellach a darparwyr hyfforddiant, awdurdodau lleol, busnesau , ysgolion a’r sector gwirfoddol i ddangos sut y gall ymdrech ar y cyd wneud gwahaniaeth gwirioneddol.

Mae’r Coleg yn aelod o Gonsortiwm FE2HE y Brifysgol ynghyd â Choleg Caerdydd a’r Fro, Coleg Pen-y-bont ar Ogwr a Choleg Catholig Dewi Sant, Caerdydd. Ffurfiwyd y consortiwm yn 2004 a’i nod yw darparu cyfleoedd dysgu hygyrch ac o safon uchel i ddysgwyr mewn colegau Addysg Bellach a gwella cyfleoedd dilyniant ar gyfer dysgwyr i astudio yn y Brifysgol. Mae’r rhain yn cynnwys graddau Sylfaen mewn Gwyddor a Thechnoleg Bwyd, Rheoli Technoleg Gwybodaeth ar gyfer Busnes a Gwasanaethau Ariannol. Bydd y rhaglenni newydd hyn yn cyfrannu at fodloni nod Llywodraeth Cymru o annog datblygiad darpariaeth hyblyg, hygyrch ac wedi’i chanolbwyntio ar y dysgwr, sydd yn cynyddu cyfranogiad, ehangu hygyrchedd, datblygu sgiliau a gwella datblygiad gweithlu. Bydd y rhaglenni newydd hyn bodloni anghenion cyflogwyr ac yn darparu ystod o ddewisiadau ffyrdd i gyrchu Addysg Uwch ac annog dilyniant i astudio ym Mhrifysgol Metropolitan Caerdydd.

Mae staff academaidd a staff cefnogi gyda chymwysterau a phrofiad da yn darparu lefel uchel o gefnogaeth fugeiliol ac academaidd ar gyfer myfyrwyr a chleientiaid busnes. Cydnabyddir ansawdd yr addysgu a’r ymchwil - rhoddodd yr Asiantaeth Sicrhau Ansawdd raddiad ‘hyder’ i’r brifysgol (y graddiad uchaf a ddyfernir) am ansawdd ei safonau dysgu academaidd a chafodd y Brifysgol raddiad “ardderchog yn rhyngwladol” am feysydd ymchwil yn yr Ymarferiad Asesu Ymchwil diwethaf.

The College Ystrad Mynach has unveiled plans to build a brand new £20m leisure and teaching centre for both students and the local community.

The new modern sports facilities will replace the College’s out-of-date gymnasium.

The state-of-the-art centre will provide a huge range of leisure and teaching facilities including a full-sized sports hall, an eight-lane 25m swimming pool, a learner pool, a gymnasium, beauty spa and café.

Mr Martin added: “Our sports programmes at the college have been growing for a number of years and the facilities we have for the students are simply out of date. And we also have inadequate facilities for our art and photography students so they will all be upgraded as part of this exciting development.”

The upper floors of the centre at the top of the college site off Twyn Road will house teaching and learning spaces for the college, including art and photography studios. In the centre’s atrium, an aeroplane fuselage will be suspended from the roof which will be used by air cabin crew students, and accessed from the upper floor. Paul Martin, the College Deputy Principal responsible for planning and finance, said the centre would be of benefit to both students and people living nearby. “We are looking to accommodate everyone. In the day, the pool will be open for local schools to use for their lessons and then in the evening, the majority of the sports facilities will be available for the public,” said Mr Martin. 12

Ychwanegodd Mr Martin: “Mae ein rhaglenni chwaraeon yn y Coleg wedi bod yn tyfu ers nifer o flynyddoedd ac mae’r cyfleusterau sydd gennym ar gyfer y myfyrwyr yn hen. Hefyd, mae’r cyfleusterau sydd gennym ar gyfer ein myfyrwyr celf a ffotograffiaeth yn annigonol felly cânt eu diweddaru fel rhan o’r datblygiad cyffrous hwn.” Meddai Prifathro’r Coleg, Bryn Davies: “Bydd y cyfleuster hamdden gwych hwn yn ychwanegiad i’r adnoddau sydd ar gael yn y Coleg. Nid dim ond ein myfyrwyr fydd yn elwa o’r datblygiad hwn, bydd y gymuned ehangach hefyd yn gallu defnyddio’r cyfleusterau modern.” Bydd peth ariannu ar gyfer y cynllun uchelgeisiol yn dod o’r Coleg a gobeithir y gellir sicrhau cyfraniadau pellach gan Lywodraeth Cymru, yn ogystal â grantiau o Ewrop a’r Loteri Chwaraeon. Wedi’i chynllunio gan benseiri AWW o Fryste, bydd y ganolfan hamdden newydd yn disodli’r hen Floc S a ddefnyddir ar hyn o bryd ar gyfer astudiaethau addysg cyffredinol.

College Principal Bryn Davies said: “This new leisure centre will be a fabulous addition to the resources on offer at the College. It will not only benefit our students but also the wider community who will be able to use the state-ofthe-art facilities.” Some of the funding for the ambitious scheme will come from the College and it is hoped further contributions will be secured from the Welsh Government, in addition to grants from Europe and the Sports Lottery. Designed by Bristol architects AWW, the proposed new leisure centre will replace the old S block which is currently used for general education studies.
