Henley Fort, in Guildford, is the perfect setting to bring history to life through living history experiences. Learn first hand how the Second World War affected the lives of people in our local communities. KS2 children have a hands on experience of what life was like by taking hands on roles of Home Guards and Air Raid Wardens.
A DAY ON THE HOME FRONT
Wearing authentic uniforms and handling relics from the past, children will take on two very distinct roles during their experience:
Air Raid Wardens will experience an air raid in
authentic Anderson and Morrison shelters, learn about gas masks, blackouts, move casualties on war time stretchers and put out real fires using 1940’s stirrup pumps.
Home Guards will learn drills in the courtyard and
how to protect their country from the enemy, make sandbags and set up road blocks to stop the spies invading, learn the art of camouflage and much more!
