How to Set Up a Website Using Joomla

The success of online business in recent years has aroused the interest of more and more personal and small business users to build their own websites or interactive applications such as online shops, forums, or online marketing platforms. However, it is often a challenge for the initial web server setup due to the lack of budget to purchase or rent a web server, hire an IT professional for maintenance, and inadequate knowledge of web programming. To realize truly simple and easy web server setup, Cisco Smart Storage has introduced the Joomla PKG add-on package. With this powerful and free application, every user can build their own websites or online applications easily. Smart Storage integrates phpMyAdmin and Joomla to simplify the installation procedure of a web server. The built-in phpMyAdmin feature enables users to manage the MySQL database via the web interface. Complicated HTML programming or web design knowledge is not required. Even non-programmers can build their websites with Joomla.

About J oomla Joomla is award-winning and one of the most powerful Open Source Content Management Systems on the planet. Joomla is easy to install, simple to manage, and reliable. It helps you build websites and other powerful online applications, requiring minimum efforts and skills. Smart Storage installs Joomla via a PKG package. The PKG installation procedure is easy.

E nable the W eb S erver and the MyS QL Databas e S erver To enable the web server: 1.

Choose Network Services > Web Server from the Navigation menu.

2.

Click Enable Web Server to enable the web server.

3.

Click Apply to save the setting.

To enable the MySQL server:

Choose Applications > MySQL Server from the Navigation menu.

2.

Click Enable MySQL Server to enable MySQL server.

To enable TCP/IP Networking, click Enable TCP/IP Networking.

4.

Click Apply to save the settings.

Download and Ins tall the J oomla P K G P ac kage Ok, we have now enabled both the web server and the MySQL database server. To download and install the Joomla PKG package: 1.

Download the Joomla PKG from http://www.cisco.com/go/smallbizsmartstorage and save it to a local directory on your PC.

2.

Choose Applications > PKG Plugins > Installation from the Navigation menu.

3.

Click Browse to locate and select the Joomla.pkg on your PC that was saved from the previous step.

4.

Click Install. The Joomla PKG package is installed to the NAS.

Choose Applications > PKG Plugins > PKG INSTALLED from the Navigation menu.

2.

Click the Joomla PKG icon to open the application information window.

3.

Click the web link to access to the Joomla installation web page.

Choose the language to display during the installation process.

5.

Click Next to continue.

6.

The pre-installation check should return Yes on all the settings required. Click Next to continue.

Note: The Display Error sometimes shows as On. This does not affect the installation or the site operation. So you can simply ignore it.

7.

Review the license information for Joomla and click Next to continue.

8.

From the Database Configuration window, in Basic Settings, enter the information for your MySQL server.

Note: The default username for MySQL is root. The default password for MySQL is admin. It is strongly recommended that you change it using phpMyAdmin.

9.

The FTP Configuration is optional and you may choose to configure the settings as shown below or click Next to continue.

Note: The user accounts in FTP are the same as the NAS system uses. Therefore, the default password for admin is admin. It is strongly recommended that you change the default password.

10. Specify a Site Name of your choice and your contact E-mail and Admin Password. It is recommended that first time users or beginners install the Sample Data in order to get some ideas. Once done, click Next to continue.

11. If you see the window as shown below, we're almost there! One more thing before it's done is we have to remove the installation folder inside the Joomla root directory.

12. If you previously mounted the Web share directory in the Windows, go to the directory where you just installed your Joomla. By default, it will be under Web > Joomla. Note: Only an administration account that installed the Joomla PKG or system admin account will be able to delete the installation directory. 13. Point your web browser to the address shown below: http:///Joomla/ You should see the following window.

14. For Joomla administration login go to: http:///Joomla/administrator/ Enter your admin username and password. The default username is admin. The default password is admin.
