UniteU's Hybrid Responsive Design approach groups ... and creating design elements much simpler and ... elements via CSS
Hybrid Responsive What Is Responsive Design Design What is responsive design? Traditional Responsive Design is used to address the increasing challenges of displaying web content on screens with different sizes, aspect ratios, and orientations. Web content now needs to present well on multiple devices, including desktops, laptops and mobile phones. To account for this challenge, responsive designs use a single design with a multitude of design elements sent to the device browser. Client-side Java Script detects device and session-specific variables such as screen resolution, and then selects from and enables the most appropriate elements via CSS or HTML for the specific device. The problem is that depending on how many devices are targeted, site design, implementation and browser testing can become complicated, while page weights significantly increase, negatively impacting performance.
Hybrid Responsive Design UniteU’s Hybrid Responsive Design approach groups devices into categories with essentially similar display characteristics. Desktop and tablet devices may be grouped together or handled separately, while mobile 3G/4G devices would be another category. By categorizing devices UniteU is able to use a combination of client-side and server-side technology to effectively mitigate the known responsive design issues of page weight and speed. A mobile device - for example - is only served responsive design elements applicable to a mobile device. This makes managing and creating design elements much simpler and presents a much smaller amount of code to the mobile phone to process, providing your customers the speed and ease of use they expect.

Additionally, as new designs or updates are deployed, testing can be done for a specific device category, so that a change to your responsive design for tablets does not require testing on mobile devices.

1. A large desktop screen expands the view allowing for extra gutter space. 2. The condensed view on a tablet moves the logo to the left side, while text shrinks to fit inside the top navigation. The "Find a Store" button moves to center screen. 3. Mobile landscape and portrait views optimally place add to cart button.
