Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy. A different way of managing wounds .... healing from the inside. Think 'non healing wounds,' think 'hyperbarichealth'.
A  different  way  of  managing  wounds  ....  healing  from  the  inside.

Think  ‘non  healing  wounds,’  think  ‘hyperbarichealth’ Chronic wounds have a significant impact on individual patients and our health system as a whole. Current estimates show over 200,000 Australians have a chronic wound and almost 25% of patients in residential care fit this category. In people with diabetes, the prevalence of lower limb ulcers is 1.9% and 5.3% have a past history of lower limb ulcers. Chronic lower limb ulcers are the main cause of nontraumatic amputations in Australia.

CAN ANYTHING BE DONE TO TREAT THESE ULCERS? The answer is that in a lot of cases: Yes! Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) is the use of pressurised oxygen to grow new microvasculature into areas where it has been compromised by diabetes, radiotherapy or other diseases that cause microvascular deterioration.

ADVERSE REACTIONS Patients are assessed to minimise risk of side effects and they are taught mechanisms of middle ear equalization to avoid difficulty in equalising middle ear pressures, the most common side effect of hyperbaric therapy.

This also has the added advantage of establishing healthy tissues that are resistant to further traumatic ulceration and infection.

Barotrauma - ear, sinus, dental, pulmonary (very rare)
