[email protected] ABSTRACT Transformational leadership as a leadership style is able to create acceptable results in organizations, such as leaders cause empowerment and increase organizational commitment in the staff and they increase the staff's faithfulness to their organization. Transformational leadership style and its role in the empowerment of librarians especially in university libraries is very important. In this study, the associations between transformational leadership and the empowerment of the librarians of central libraries in state universities of Tehran have been investigated. A correlative study on the basis of research, practical and descriptive aspects was selected. The society of the research was included of the librarians of the central libraries of state universities in Tehran. The Data collection tools used for this study were in accordance with methods described by Barnett et al (2001) transformational leadership questionnaire and also Ivancevich et al (2005) empowerment questionnaire. To calculate reliability of internal consistency of questionnaires items, Cronbach's alpha (above 70%) was used. Spearman's correlation coefficient was used to analyze the data. Moreover, the data were analyzed by the version 20 of SPSS software.
