Implementing electrodynamic tethers without need for a space plasma Explanation This invention uses an electrostatic generator like a van de Graff to separate the charges on two sections of the tether. The opposite charges are created on the tether such that the current flows in the required direction to generate the desired maneuver on closing the switch.
