Special Issue Digital Innovation Management (Submission closing date: June 15th, 2019) Aim of Special Issue: The digital transformation leads to dramatic changes in the business world. While in some industries digital business models disrupt old business practices (see e.g. advertisement, banking or publishing), in other fields the digitization leads to an evolution of certain business processes including logistics, production and marketing. However, the influence of digitization on innovation management as a business process is rarely discussed in academic literature (Nambisan et al. 2017). Technological advancements offer several opportunities to use the digitization for an improvement of innovation management processes. Big data for instance could make it easier to assess customer needs and improve products or services based on it (Shuradze et al. 2018). 3D-Printing and virtual reality environments enable rapid prototyping and might lead to a rapid diffusion of innovation (Urbinati et al. 2018). The ubiquity of mobile devices and tablets ensures that innovators have access to a wide variety of apps and tools to assist the innovation management process. New communication and project management platforms might enable a higher engagement of users and employees within innovation management (Scuotto et al. 2017; Tirabeni & Soderquist 2018). In addition, artificial intelligence and an increasing automation might also support or overtake parts of the innovation management process. Furthermore, the digitalization might empower the user to realize his/her own innovation projects utilizing the principles of shared economy (Richter et al. 2017) or crowdfunding (Brem et al. 2017). This special issue aims to create new insights into how digitization specifically impacts innovation management as a business process.
