INTERNATIONAL ENGLISH LANGUAGE TEACHER EDUCATOR CONFERENCE 21–23 February 2014, Hyderabad International Convention Centre, Hyderabad Online registrations now open Innovation in English language teacher education Exploration and experimentation are two key terms in any teacher’s life; without them teaching becomes boring and repetitive. In the 21st century, these two aspects get intertwined with technology, leading to varied innovations and other pioneering practices. Any system, in order to be forward looking, must be bold in encouraging experimentation and innovations and also be involved with constant review of the outcomes of such efforts. The field of teacher education should be no exception. (National Curriculum Framework for Teacher Education (NCFTE) 2009–10, page 83) In line with this NCFTE assertion, the 2014 International English Language Teacher Educator conference carries innovation as its theme. By choosing the theme of innovation, we include, but in no way limit, the scope to discussions on the use of technology for teacher education and/or as a tool for use in the classroom. Technology is viewed as one of the vehicles for innovations in our field, in contexts where its use is appropriate and possible. Central to the theme is the need to encourage teachers to experiment in the classroom and in so doing find new ways to support their students’ learning in the classroom. Diverse teaching environments across India result in an even greater need

for teachers to be equipped with skills to seek out and examine new ways of approaching or solving common problems and the challenges that teachers face. The fourth English language Teacher Educator Conference will include plenary sessions by leaders in the field of ELT, with an emphasis on speakers who are known for their innovative practices and research. Parallel sessions and panel discussions will continue to be a key part of the programme. The following are the keynote and plenary speakers at the conference: - Simon Borg, Professor, Leeds University - Rama Mathew, Dean and Professor, Department of Education, University of Delhi; - Julian Edge, Senior Lecturer in TESOL; School of Environment, Education and Development, The University of Manchester, UK; - Steve Mann, Associate Professor, University of Warwick and - Tom Power, Senior Lecturer and Programme Director for English in Action at the Open University, UK The NCF (2005) and the NCFTE (2009) clearly recommend a shift from a knowledge and content based style of teaching to a participatory, experiential and skills based approach. We aim to ensure that this is reflected in the way that information is shared and conducted at the TEC conference and we will be looking at ways to make it more participatory for all. International speakers will present on innovations from other contexts, facilitating discussion about whether similar practices are possible and appropriate in the Indian context. The overall theme of the conference is Innovation in English Language Teacher Education, which is divided into the following three sub-themes: Innovations in continuing professional development for English language teacher educators and teachers

• technology and continuing professional development • social media and networking for continuing professional development • online and face-to-face mentoring • teacher motivation through technology. Learning from experience • reflection as a tool for growth • classroom based research • alternative practices in assessment and evaluation • feedback as a teaching–learning tool. Technological resources for language education • m-learning in teacher education • online teacher education • interface of technological and traditional resources • digital course design and delivery • technology for inclusive and special education • technology enabled in-service teacher training (INSETT).
