INSTALLATION NOTES IMPORTANT INFORMATION Welcome to the SATURN v11.2.05 Release. An integral part of this release is the new SATURN11 that provides a new process for interfacing with the SATURN software. Accordingly, there are a couple of additional steps that may be required during the installation depending on the PC configuration. The installation is undertaken in two parts: (i) installation of the SATURN v11.2.05; and (ii) installation of the new SATWIN11 interface as described below. To install SATURN successfully: Before the SATURN software is installed, the PC must have Microsoft .NET 4 Framework already installed and the SATURN licence key file in the install directory. a)

If Microsoft .NET 4 framework is not installed, please stop the installation now by clicking Cancel button then either: - Download .NET 4 Framework directly from the Internet (http://www.microsoft.com/enus/download/details.aspx?id=17718); OR - Download ‘DOTNET_FRAMEWORK_4.ZIP’ from your SATURN Download Manager account. The software may be accessed via "Document Download" button and then "SYSTEM Files". Please unzip the contents and place them in same location as SETUP.EXE and re-start this installation (i.e. by running SETUP.EXE).

b)

The SATURN licence key file (i.e. SAT10KEY.DAT) should be in the same folder as SETUP.EXE. If the user’s SATURN licence key can't be located, please contact us (e-mail: '[email protected]' /Tel: +44(0)1372 - 756755)

There are three other things to also note: a)

The installation of the SATURN11 front-end (‘part 2’) is embedded in this install and it is important that the installation path should be the same as the installation path for the main ‘part 1’ installation. Note that it will be by default ‘C:\SATWIN’.

b)

For Windows VISTA/ Windows 7 users, the SATURN software has to be installed using Administrative Privileges to avoid problems regarding the registration of system files used by SATWIN 10. Please consult your System Administrator to install on your behalf if you have restricted privilege.

c)

If the user is updating a previously installed and working copy of SATURN, the SAT10KEY licence file is not required to be copied into the installation media folder.

This installation will overwrite any existing version of SATURN (if installed over a previous version). To keep any of the files in an existing version (particularly the EXE files for later use): a)

Click the CANCEL button now to stop the installation.

b)

Use Windows Explorer to rename the folder XEXES in the previous version (by default C:\SATWIN\XEXES) to XEXES.11.1.09 for example.

c)

Start the installation process again.

You should then be able to switch between versions via the dialog box that will appear when you launch SATWIN or via the SETTINGS-->Folders menu. After installation, a shortcut to SATWIN will be placed on the desktop for quick access. You can also access it through Programs in the Start Menu.

Checking the Installation After completing the installation, you should start SATWIN10 and click "Check Installation" from the "Settings" menu.

This will check the functionality of SATWIN to see if it will work as expected. If any problems are encountered (such as writeaccess on the installed folder as well as the "Working" folder) they will be highlighted so that appropriate action can be taken in advance.

Running the Test Network To run the test networks after installation, click Test Network 1, 2, or 3 from the Test Network menu then click Run

Windows XP/Vista/7 Users If SATWIN is launched on a Windows XP/Vista/7 machine, and the user is logged in without write-access to the drive where SATWIN is installed, the following error might occur: "Run-time error 75 - Path/File access error" SATWIN normally creates and updates some ASCII text files during use; consequently, it needs to be able to write to the hard disk. To address this problem, the user should ask the system administrator to provide write-access to the folder where SATWIN is installed, as well as all "Working Folders". Alternatively, the user should log in as administrator if appropriate.
