Instructions for MINI Cooper gauge face kit.

Tools Needed: Torx screwdrivers T20, T25 Phillips head screwdriver Tongue depressor or small plastic wedge (used for windshield replacement, etc.) Small pliers or tweezers (preferably 45 degree angle) – recommended Patience

Tachometer We will start with the tachometer. Lower the steering column using the lever underneath. The tach assembly is secured by two screws, Torx T20, remove both screws and lift assembly up. There is a small cover and rubber gasket. Remove cover and note position of the gasket on the column. Press down on small tab to release harness. Remove two Phillips head screws from back of housing. Cut label at bottom of tach with razor or knife. Carefully lift tab to release bezel. Remove cover and carefully pry tabs holding bezel in place. Remove bezel and “glass”. Remove black plastic ring. Gently pry needle and cover from shaft, noting position of needle. To pry needle, use tweezers or “V” shaped tool under center, lifting carefully to avoid bending shaft or breaking needle. Once the needle is removed, peel factory gauge face from housing. Install new face noting position of lower tabs. Press needle into position and reinstall cap. Place “glass” on tach and plug in to test. Turn ignition on and make sure needle lines up correctly. If not, unplug assembly

and remove and replace needle until it is lined up. Reinstall ring, cover and bezel. Plug in assembly and reinstall cover. Check position of gasket on column and install screws. Check operation of tach and lights.

Speedometer

Unclip trim ring from speedometer, by pulling straight off and slightly down. The ring can be left in place in some cases. Remove trim rings on dimmer switch and hazard light switch. Remove two Torx screws from top of cluster trim panel. The screws are vertical next to switches at top. Open glove box door and pull down lower cover under steering wheel. Grab firmly from the top of the cover and pull down, clips are at the top and hinges at the bottom. Remove two Torx screws at bottom, these are on the far outside near the seams. Gently pry top of cluster with wedge to start. Cluster and cover pull straight off. When the cover is removed, the dash vents come with it. Make sure all the metal clips are in place on housing. Remove four Torx screws that hold the instrument carrier in place. Pull carrier out, but DO NOT unplug. If the cluster is unplugged, it has to be programmed by your friendly neighborhood MINI dealer. Pry tabs (white) to remove “glass” portion of gauge. Remove rubber cap from reset button by pulling off. Carefully lift tabs on black plastic cover to expose gauge. Remove needle and cap by carefully prying straight up from shaft. Pull needles from lower gauges noting their location. Peel and remove old gauge face. Replace face by inserting tabs near lower gauges. Reinstall needles. Hold cluster up to view. Turn ignition on, needle for

speedometer will move. If it is not centered at the “0” mark, turn ignition off and reset needle. Once you are satisfied with the location, reinstall black plastic cover and “glass”. Place carrier into position and install screws. Do not over tighten. Install dash trim and switch bezels, making sure cover is tight. If necessary reinstall speedometer bezel. Go Motoring !!
