1

Assignment Assume today is your last working day in Caspian, and you are asked to speak about the highlights of your time here; the contribution you made – maximum 5 points.

Write them down - Time 3 minutes.

2

Achievements can be broadly classified into three buckets • Completing the assigned tasks • Working towards improving the way things are done • Doing new and innovative things

3

General Thoughts • There is no thumb rule that the third is better than the others, that people doing routine tasks in an organisation are less important. Somebody has to do the not so glamorous work as well. • And in a Finance Company, there should not be too many moving parts. • Diarrhoea v/s Constipation

4

Valuing People – A Basic Human Value • Honestly believing that people is what makes each organisation unique and special • That the people you work with are worth investing in • That they are learnable • That coaching/mentoring them is not a waste of time • That you can help your team grow in competency & capability

6

More thoughts • Everything is not linear having one-to-one relationship • Spreading the Organisational Culture & values wherever you go in life • Carrying the Goodwill • Corporate storytelling

7

Why external trainings are often not satisfying Theory, systems & processes may be shared, But • There is tacit knowledge that is difficult to transmit in a Training setting • These include factors like Intuition & Instinct • A lot of the learning happens through cross-learning. So, find-out who are the others attending the course. • There is also the concept in learning called Critical Mass

8

Why So? • We recently had Gates Foundation & Nilekani Foundation people visit us. They came all the way from Seattle, to meet us. • We are also being invited to partner by several organisations Indigram Labs Foundation, ISB DLabs, Villgro & Menterra, KIIT, etc.

9

Reason • For them: Accelerating their pace of learning. • For us: We are open to sharing our experience

10

The in-house learning dilemmas • What is there for me to learn? • What is there for me to teach? Teaching is the best form of Learning.

11

The Learning Loop In simple terms, the learning loop completes the cycle of

Doing  Documenting Learning  Sharing  Internalising lessons  Updating Systems & Processes, if necessary.

12
