INTENSIVE TOEIC PREPARATION COURSE OUTLINE This is an advanced course intended for clients that have TOEIC scores of 500+, either on the actual test or from our placement test. The main text for this course is ‘Longman Preparation Course for the TOEIC Test’ (Advanced Course) with supplementary materials from ‘5-Minute Quizzes for TOEIC’ (Reading), the ‘Supplemental TOEIC Pack’, ‘TOEIC Advanced Vocabulary Pack’ and Videos. Classes are 1 and 1/2 hours long, and meet twice a week for 3 months for a total of 24 classes. To help our clients get accustomed to the pressure of test situations all practice exercises from the text will have a strict time limit. The instructor should start out with a time limit that is long enough for students not to feel too rushed but still requires them to think and work quickly. This will allow students to adjust to the time constraints of the test and give the instructor extra time to cover problem areas. Because of the large amount of material to be studied in each lesson, it is necessary for the instructor to keep the class organized and focused on the tasks for the lesson. Each class is designed to cover four main areas Analyzing Photographs, Listening Practice, Reading Practice and Building Vocabulary. Students shouldn’t preview the first three areas, Analyzing Photographs, Listening Practice and Reading Practice. The emphasis in the Advanced Course is on developing reading comprehension skills, but if students need more work on listening comprehension or analyzing photographs then extra time can be spent on the those sections. The Vocabulary Builder worksheets have been designed to introduce vocabulary that will be used in the following lesson so it is vital to follow the outline. The first two tasks of each Vocabulary Builder worksheet should be done in class if there is enough time and the other tasks are designed for self study and can be reviewed the following lesson. 5-Minute Quizzes for TOEIC (Reading) can be used in class if there is enough time or assigned as homework for reinforcement. They can be quickly reviewed the following class.
