Class Arrangement

Courses related to interior design, retail and exhibition design, architectural design, landscape architecture, product design, visual communication etc E.g. The Technological and Higher Education Institute of Hong Kong (THEi) or Hong Kong Design Institute (HKDI) of the VTC • Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Landscape Architecture • Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Product Design • Higher Diploma in Product, Interior and Exhibition Design (Subject Group) • Higher Diploma in Visual Communication • Higher Diploma in Architectural Design • Higher Diploma in Landscape Architecture

(Remark: The final class arrangement may be subject to change with respect to the final confirmation of student enrolment) Time: (Lessons will also be scheduled during summer vacation)

Employment

Students are required to attend a group interview. Selection is based on student’s interest in design; aptitude; drawing and design-related skills; communication and language skills

Further Studies

This course aims to develop students’ creativity and to equip them with the basic knowledge and skills required for interior design, enabling them to apply their learning to the creation of ideas and development of spatial design. Emphasis is also placed on enriching students’ understanding of culture, aesthetics, technology, design and society. This course is organised into five modules: Module 1: Design Principles and Appreciation (30 hours) • Interior design as a profession • Aesthetics and appreciation of threedimensional forms and spaces • Spatial design and end-users’ need • Design process basics • Work ethics Module 2: Visualisation and Presentation Techniques (30 hours) • Drawing tools and media • Basic perspectives • Auto CAD fundamentals • Presentation of 3D space on 2D drawings • Working models to express 3D form/space Module 3: Interior Design and Built Environment (30 hours) • Interior design basics • Different professions of spatial design • City spaces of Hong Kong • Living spaces around us • Green concept and sustainability of built environment

Mode 1

3 hours per lesson scheduled for: • Every Saturday 1:30 pm to 4:30 pm Venue: Hong Kong Design Institute (HKDI) 3 King Ling Road, Tseung Kwan O, N.T.

Mode 2

Time and venue can be flexibly arranged subject to mutual agreement between the school and the VTC

Selection Arrangement

Careers in the fields of interior design, retail and exhibition design, architectural design, landscape architecture, product design, visual communication etc

Course Fee

Module 4: Interior Product Design (30 hours) • Categories of interior products • Basic properties of different materials • Form and structure of interior product • Furniture and lighting design • Integration of interior space and interior products

$12,100 (Course fee is fully subsidised by the EDB and secondary schools) (Course fee reduction will be offered to schools participating in Mode 2)

Module 5: Lifestyle Interior Design Project (60 hours) • Personal image and identity • Ideal living space • Ideal interior products • Lifestyle interior design project (choose only one topic) i. My Room ii. Our Space • Presentation of the lifestyle interior design project

Diversified learning and teaching activities: e.g. case studies, projects, artistic work appreciation, professional talks and sharing, visit to important city spaces and landmarks of significant values in Hong Kong, exhibitions and museums etc 2. Simulated learning environment: Equipped with industry-standard facilities and equipment, e.g. Design Studio, Three-Dimensional Design Workshop, Ceramic Workshop, Photographic Workshop etc for students to practise related knowledge and skills 3. Professional teaching team: Course tutors with extensive industrial experience to facilitate students’ understanding of the latest development of the related industries
