INTERNATIONAL LITERACY DAY 2016 “Reading the Past, Writing the Future” "LIFELONG LEARNING" Open Photography Competition GENERAL GUIDELINES Sustainable Development Goal 4 “Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all” is one of the 17 goals adopted by world leaders for the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Lifelong learning is relevant for both developed and developing countries. In the Nepali context, we must reorient ourselves to look beyond basic literacy skills and move towards lifelong learning. On the occasion of the 2016 International Literacy Day, UNESCO Kathmandu invites photographers and photography enthusiasts to participate in its open photography competition on the theme ‘Lifelong Learning’. Following are the guidelines for the competition: 1. The contest is open to all Nepalese. a. The photograph should be submitted online via http://bit.ly/ILD2016-Photo. b. While submitting, make sure you submit your original uncompressed photograph. c. Please make sure to properly name your photographs with your own name. d. Registration form with the inaccurate information will be disqualified. 2. Photographs must be in digital format. Only online entries will be eligible. All digital files must be in JPEG or JPG format, and must be at least 1,600 pixels wide (if a horizontal image) or 1,600 pixels tall (if a vertical image). 3. Only minor burning, dodging and/or color correction is acceptable, as is cropping. High dynamic range images (HDR) and stitched panoramas are NOT acceptable. Any changes to the original Photograph not itemized here are unacceptable and will render the photograph ineligible for a prize. 4. The deadline of submission is 8 September 2016. 5. Only 1 entry per participant is accepted. 6. The UNESCO panel judges photographs and the decision will be based on the relevance to the theme and creativity. 7. By entering the contest, entrant represents, acknowledges and warrants that the submitted photograph is an original work created solely by the entrant, that the photograph does not infringe on the copyrights, trademarks, moral rights, rights of privacy/publicity or intellectual property rights of any person or entity, and that UNESCO has the non-commercial right to use the photograph. Entrant’s names will be credited on the photographs. 8. The entrants may also be asked to sign the “GRANT OF RIGHTS” with UNESCO. Failure to do so may lead to the disqualification of the entry. 9.
