Promoting Stability, Wellbeing and Harmony for Myanmar Muslim and Host Communities in Thailand Thailand has been a destination and transition country for marginalized Myanmar Muslim migrants and Rohingya from Myanmar for decades as they flee conflict and extreme poverty from their home country. Currently there is a lack of accurate and statistics of these populations, but it is estimated that around 8,397 Myanmar Muslim migrants including Rohingya are residing in Thai communities in Tak, Ranong and Phang Nga Provinces. Without regularized status in Thailand, the Rohingya and marginalized Myanmar Muslims in local Thai communities live with the constant threat of arbitrary deportation. High levels of poverty, lack of opportunities, and ‘irregularity’ of stay in Thailand contribute to their vulnerable and marginalized status. There is an overall lack of access to existing services, in areas such as healthcare, education and livelihood, for those residing in Thai communities, compared to those in refugee camps where access to services and support are more systematic and predicable.

Tak (Mae Sot)

Myanmar Muslims residing in local communities face highly insecure situations due to their irregular status and varying degrees of documentation. In addition to the constant threat of arbitrary deportation, their vulnerabilities are exacerbated by high levels of poverty, an overall lack of access to services such as healthcare and education and lack of livelihood opportunity.

Ranong

In order to address these gaps and provide support to Myanmar Muslims and their host Objective: To promote increased stability, well-being and harmony for marginalised Myanmar Muslims in host communities through improved living conditions, access to services and livelihood opportunities, and standardization of implementation and programming.
