International Visiting Research Student Application Form If you wish to undertake full-time research at UNSW on a fee-paying basis for one or two semesters you can apply to do so as an International Visiting Research Student. Applicants who are currently enrolled in a Student and Practicum Exchange partner university should check their eligibility for research exchange at http://www.international.unsw.edu.au/study/study-options-unsw. Eligibility Applicants are required to have completed an undergraduate degree and attained a minimum GPA of 3.0 (or equivalent, as determined by UNSW). How do I apply? You will need to find a UNSW academic staff member who will agree to supervise you before you can complete and submit this form. These are the steps you will need to take: 1. Research your proposed research topic thoroughly to help make it easier to find a supervisor and research topic. The more aligned (related) your proposal is to research being undertaken at UNSW; the more likely it is that you will be able to find a suitable research project. See the Important Notes section below for some constraints to be aware of when preparing your proposal. 2. Find a Supervisor: Before completing this form, contact the School or Department in which you wish to undertake your research, and locate an academic staff member who may be able to supervise you. If you are not sure where to start, try searching the UNSW Graduate Research School website: www.grs.unsw.edu.au/futurestudents.find.html To contact your supervisor with your research proposal and request for supervision we recommend that you include a résumé (curriculum vitae), your academic transcript, and a letter of academic reference from one of the professors in your home university. We also advise that you include a cover letter. 3. Complete this form: Once a staff member has agreed to supervise you for your research, you should complete Part A of the form on pages 3 and 4 and send it with Parts B and C on pages 5 and 6 to your proposed supervisor for approval. Your supervisor will need to complete Part B of the form, obtain Authorisation on Part C and return all three sections to you to submit. 4. Submit your completed form: Submit all completed sections to the UNSW Study Abroad team at Level 16, Mathews Building, UNSW or email to [email protected]. This application form needs to be completed in full and submitted with certified transcripts of your academic record. If your original documents are not in English, certified translations of your transcripts will also be required. If you have changed your name, you will also need to provide documentary evidence. There is no application fee. Application deadline Application deadlines are flexible and depend on your proposed study dates. Please contact us at [email protected] for more information. Note: depending on which passport you carry, it may be necessary to allow up to six months for visa processing. More information is available at: http://www.immi.gov.au/students/student-visa-assessment-levels.htm

Important Notes: » The Study Abroad team - Global Education Office, UNSW International is responsible for administering International Visiting Research Students. »

Acceptance for enrolment in research depends on the ability of the School/Faculty to offer suitable supervision.

»

It is the final decision of the School/Faculty whether a student is able to participate meaningfully in the proposed research and can be enrolled. If your research request is not suitable to the work or research being carried out in the School or there are insufficient resources available to accommodate your request, your application might not be approved.

»

»

Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) is a compulsory condition of your student visa and will be organised through Medibank by Study Abroad in order to issue visa documentation. Students are required to have OSHC throughout their stay in Australia. New Zealand, Belgian, Swedish and Norwegian citizens are covered under a reciprocal government agreement and are not required to purchase OSHC.

»

Your transcript will not display the specific research undertaken and therefore you may wish to request a Report or Reference from your supervisor at the completion of your research project to outline the work that was undertaken.

What happens next? You will receive an email confirmation of the outcome of your application, no later than two weeks after your complete application has been received. Please note that because you will be contacted primarily by email, you should nominate a personal email address that you check regularly, and print your email address on the application form clearly. Successful applicants will receive a letter of offer along with instructions for accepting the offer and applying for a student visa. Any questions? If you have any questions about this form or about the application process, email the Study Abroad team at the UNSW Global Education Office: [email protected].
