Conference Venue: Dubrovnik "Those who seek paradise on Earth should come to Dubrovnik and see Dubrovnik." (George Bernard Shaw)
Dubrovnik is situated in the southernmost part of the Republic of Croatia. Founded in the 7th century, Dubrovnik is rich with cultural and historical monuments and is included in the UNESCO World Heritage list. The city is surrounded with the walls built between the 11th and 17th century. Its cultural and scientific institutions include Museum at Rector's Palace, Cathedral Treasury, Pinacotheca, Franciscan monastery and cloister, with one of three oldest pharmacies in Europe (14th c.), the Cathedral (initial funds given by King Richard the Lionheart), one of the European oldest Synagogues, Marin Drzic Theatre, Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra, Interuniversity Center. Nature lovers can find here true Mediterranean landscape, and "enjoy the cleanest sea in the Mediterranean" (Jean Jacques Cousteau). Dubrovnik International Airport is situated 22 km from the city center.

Political aspects of sustainable development (long term planning, the role of political leaders and of voters, international conflict vs. sustainable development, security and sustainability, resource and political security),
In addition, acknowledging that regional coordination is the only feasible solution for gaining synergy effects for the small and only partially connected emerging energy markets of the Mediterranean, the Conference will address the core goals of the Energy Community and the wider region:
Competitive integrated regional energy market (regional cooperation, market opening, price reform, regulatory framework and independence, coordination on regional projects) Security of supply (diversification of fuels, energy efficiency, oil and gas storages, regional emergency response, energy and water scarcity) Climate change and environment (regional emissions reduction plans, fuel mix in power generation - renewable energy - gasification - energy efficiency, intelligent use of energy) Infrastructure development (Mediterranean power ring, Southern Corridor vs. South Stream, investment projects of regional interest - minimum definition criteria, investments in the gas sector, electricity interconnections, grid access and integration of renewable energy) Social dimension (definition of vulnerable customers, protection schemes, stepwise phasing out of regulated energy prices, fossil fuel subsidies) External relations in light of sustainable development (enlargement - EU neighbours, cooperation with other international organizations)

SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT OF ENERGY, WATER AND ENVIRONMENT SYSTEMS / 2015
Preface The objective of the series of conferences on Sustainable Development of Energy, Water and Environment Systems (SDEWES) is to provide a forum for world-wide specialists and those interested in learning about the sustainability of development, to present research progress and to discuss the state of the art, the future directions and priorities in the various areas of sustainable development. This includes the improvement and dissemination of knowledge on methods, policies and technologies for increasing the sustainability of development, taking into account its economic, environmental and social pillars, as well as methods for assessing and measuring sustainability of development, regarding energy, transport, agriculture, water and environment systems and their many combinations. The reason for the forum having such a wide scope is due to the need for holistic integrated solutions encompassing several or all sectors.

Abstract Similarly as marble, travertine is a widely used material for building purposes worldwide. Travertine consists mostly of aragonite and calcite and is formed as a result of supersaturated water and geothermal alkaline with a partial pressure of dioxide carbon. As a porous material, it suffers from the same problematics as marble and is often subject of micro- and macro-structure disruption due to water penetration/condensation in its pores. In the present study the treatment by three chemical solutions (5%) of travertine is considered. The overall process assumes the structural pore reduction due to the continuous controlled crystallization of low soluble inorganic salts such as calcium sulfate and calcium oxalate. Travertine samples of monolithic blocks of Turkish origin previously cut in form of parallelpipedic blocs with length of 25 ± 1 mm, width and thickness of 7 mm are employed in this study. The prepared samples were dipped in distilled water for 2-3 hours followed by drying up to 6 hours at 700C, 6 hours at 1000 C and 12 hours to 1250 C. Consolidation of travertine samples is carried out by treatment in three stages: the first stage involves treatment with calcium acetate (Ca (CH3COO) 2 • H2O), the second stage involves the treatment with ammonium sulphate (NH4)2SO4, followed by the third stage includes the treatment with ammonium oxalate (NH4)2C2O4 • H2O . The decreasing of porosity and surface area is monitored by continuous gravimetric measurements followed by gas- and mercury porosimetric measurments. After each treatment, the sample weight increases and its porosity decreases. All travertine samples were subject of: 10, 20, 30, 40, 50 treatments respectively.
