Introducing Canopy To streamline and support the operation of the NIDDK clearinghouses’ inquiry response, ordering, storage, fulfillment, and reporting operations, we will employ Circle’s proprietary inhouse software solution, Canopy. Built on the Microsoft Dynamics Customer Relationship Management platform, we designed Canopy to support a multitude of activities that must integrate for optimal performance. Canopy delivers an array of benefits that will translate into significant advantages and greater cost efficiency for the NIDDK: Control. Canopy can accommodate the NIDDK’s business rules to ensure that requirements for maximum copies available are met, exemptions are observed, and certain specified publication versions are disseminated first. Ordering. Canopy integrates seamlessly with catalog ordering sites, allowing requesters to browse and order publications. Inventory Management. Canopy enables us to track inventory end-to-end as it moves through the distribution center with a built-in audit trail that captures any changes to inventory—the what, when, how, and who. Order Preparation. Canopy employs mobile, handheld RF units to expedite order picking and shipping timelines. Quality. Canopy enhances quality assurance with identification bar-coding for each pick line and pallet location allowed each item to be validated during the order selection process. Fulfillment. Canopy’s integration with an address verification Web service enables us to validate mailing addresses so that 98 percent or more of orders we ship are delivered into the hands of requesters. Real-time Tracking. Canopy centralizes tracking for all call center and fulfillment activities, and its customizable graphical dashboards allow authorized users to view activity in real time. Authorized users can track and report on fulfillment status as orders are queued, picked, packed, awaiting shipment, and shipped, and/or returned.

Real-time Reporting. Canopy’s numerous reporting capabilities are enabled through a centralized data repository. Its real-time reporting and analytical capabilities will be available to the NIDDK via a Web interface and will include orders currently placed for the product, reserved inventory, inventory available for new orders, and replenishment updates. Analysis. Canopy facilitates forecasting, trending, and demographic analysis to help track and analyze campaign efforts, social media, and keyword searches. This enables us to identify information gaps, evaluate the effectiveness material and outreach efforts, and interpret results so we can better meet the needs of NIDDK’s constituents. Security. Canopy protects and removes PII in compliance with HHS and NIDDK requirements, even while tracking all logistical and demographic trends and reporting requirements. Room for Growth. Canopy’s robustness and flexibility will accommodate growth and future technological advancements and innovative enhancements.
