Introducing four new members of the editorial board of X-ray spectrometry The editorial board (EB) members of X-Ray Spectrometry are reconsidered regularly, to achieve a better scope of the emerging issues in the X-ray techniques and a more relevant geographical coverage. At the latest meeting of the EB, on June 19, 2014, in Bologna, Italy, during the European X-Ray Spectrometry Conference, four new members have been proposed and accepted. Here is a short CV for each one. JEAN-CLAUDE DOUSSE received his PhD in Physics from the University of Fribourg, Switzerland, in 1978, and he was immediately appointed as a permanent collaborator there. His research activities were initially devoted to various nuclear reactions on actinides and rare earth nuclei and to muonic physics. In 1982 he carried out research in LANL (Los Alamos, USA) and in TRIUMF (Vancouver, Canada). From 1983 to 1988, he shared his time between teaching at the University of Fribourg and doing research in the Paul Scherrer Institute in Villigen and in CERN in Geneva, Switzerland. In 1989, he was appointed as associate professor for experimental physics and leader of the Atomic and X-Ray Physics group at the University of Fribourg. In 2001, he became extraordinary professor there. Since then his work is mostly concerned with fundamental and applied atomic physics. The latter imply the influence of the solid state and chemical effects in X-ray emission and the development of novel high-resolution X-ray spectroscopy, using high-resolution X-ray crystal spectrometry. He authored some 150 refereed papers. Prof. Dousse is vice-dean of the faculty of Sciences at the University of Fribourg, honorary professor at the East China University of Science and Technology, and a member of many relevant committees and panels. JORGE FERNANDEZ has completed his studies at the Faculty of Mathematics, Astronomy and Physics of the State University of Córdoba, Argentina, earning his PhD in Physics in 1985 with a theoretical–experimental dissertation on a spectroscopic absolute method of analysis with nuclear techniques. He has been a faculty member of the State University of Cordoba, in different positions, between 1979 and 1993. From 1994 to 2001 he was affiliated researcher of the Italian National Institute for Physics of Matter (INFM), head of the research group Atomic and Molecular Physics of INFM in Bologna and assistant professor at the Engineering Faculty of the University of Bologna. At present he is Professor of Nuclear Reactor Physics, at the Alma Mater Studiorum University of Bologna. He has organized e.g. the European Conferences on X-Ray Spectrometry in Bologna, in 1998 as well as in 2014. He is presently secretary of International Radiation Physics Society (IRPS). Prof. Fernandez has published more than 110 articles in international scientific journals, several of them as invited contributions. He had given nearly 20 invited lectures at international conferences. Concerning his pedagogical activities, he is actually professor of transport of particles and radiation, of radioprotection and of

informatics at the University of Bologna. In 2005 he was visiting professor of the Polytechnic University of Valencia (Spain), and in 2007, 2009 and 2012, he taught Erasmus courses at the Institut Supérieur Industriel de Bruxelles (Belgium). He has been the coordinator of European Erasmus exchange programs with Spain (Polytechnic University of Valencia and University of Barcelona), Portugal (University of Coimbra), Sweden (Chalmers University, Goteborg), Norway (University of Bergen), and Czech Republic (Prague Technical University). MATJAŽ KAVČIČ completed his studies at the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics of the University of Ljubljana and immediately after that was appointed at the Department for Low and Medium Energy Physics at Jožef Stefan Institute, Ljubljana, Slovenia. His research activities were initially dedicated to atomic inner shell ionization induced in collision with fast ions. He has received his Ph. D. in Physics in 2000 at the University of Ljubljana, Slovenia. Experimental part of his Ph.D. work was performed at the Paul Scherrer Institute in Switzerland. From 2004–2005 he has spent one year in the Atomic Physics group at the University of Fribourg, Switzerland. Lately his main research field moved towards synchrotron radiation and the development of high-energy resolution X-ray spectroscopy. He has performed experiments at several synchrotrons, namely ESRF (Grenoble, France), SLS (Villigen, Switzerland), Elletra (Trieste, Italy), SSRL (Stanford, USA) employing resonant inelastic x-ray scattering and x-ray emission spectroscopy. Besides fundamental atomic and molecular physics research an important part of his work represent applications of high-energy resolution X-ray spectroscopy for the interdisciplinary research studies of new materials and chemical research. He is also combining highenergy resolution X-ray spectroscopy with ion beam analytical methods in particular with the proton induced x-ray emission technique (PIXE) going on at the Tandem accelerator at the J. Stefan Institute. He has published over 50 peer-reviewed international scientific publications and given several invited lectures at international conferences. Currently, Dr. Kavčič is a senior research associate at the J. Stefan Institute in Ljubljana and assistant professor in the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics, University of Ljubljana. He is a member of the international advisory committees for the International Workshop on Photoionization and Resonant Inelastic X-ray Scattering and the BioPIXE conference. IGNASI QUERALT received his M. Sc. in Earth Sciences at the Autonomous University of Barcelona, Spain, in 1976, and his Ph. D. degree at the University of Barcelona (Dept. of Crystallography, Mineralogy and Ore Deposits) in 1988. After short period as assistant professor at the Faculty of Geology of the University of Barcelona, he obtained in 1990 a permanent position in the Spanish National Council for Scientific Research at the Institute of Earth Sciences Jaume Almera. Since 1995, he is the head of the Laboratory for X-ray Analytical Applications there. His former scientific activity was related to the use of X-ray diffraction, X-ray fluorescence, electron microscopy and infrared

Editorial spectroscopy to characterize clay minerals and sedimentary rocks, but subsequently he worked in the application of different solidstate spectroscopic methods (mostly X-ray fluorescence and X-ray diffraction) to environmental and geochemical issues. Dr. Queralt has been Editor-in-Chief of the Spanish Journal Acta Geologica Hispanica (nowadays Geologica Acta) and a member of the Directive staff of the Mineralogical Spanish Society. His research work as geochemist has focused on the mobility and dispersal of inorganic pollutants in soils, sediments, atmosphere, water and biota in subjects related to both applied and basic research. He is author of more than 190 scientific papers published in national and international journals, cited over 1300 times. He participated in over 200 scientific conferences and has been invited

to give seminars and courses about X-ray analysis in several European and American universities. He is a member of numerous Spanish and international evaluation and expert panels concerning geological and environmental issues and nuclear-related analysis techniques. USING e-ANNOTATION TOOLS FOR ELECTRONIC PROOF CORRECTION Required software to e-Annotate PDFs: Adobe Acrobat Professional or Adobe Reader (version 7.0 or above). (Note that this document uses screenshots from Adobe Reader X) The latest version of Acrobat Reader can be downloaded for free at: http://get.adobe.com/uk/reader/ Once you have Acrobat Reader open on your computer, click on the Comment tab at the right of the toolbar:

This will open up a panel down the right side of the document. The majority of tools you will use for annotating your proof will be in the Annotations section, pictured opposite. We’ve picked out some of these tools below:

1. Replace (Ins) Tool – for replacing text.

2. Strikethrough (Del) Tool – for deleting text.

Strikes a line through text and opens up a text box where replacement text can be entered. How to use it

Highlight a word or sentence.

Click on the Replace (Ins) icon in the Annotations section.

Type the replacement text into the blue box that appears.

3. Add note to text Tool – for highlighting a section to be changed to bold or italic.

4. Add sticky note Tool – for making notes at specific points in the text.

Type the comment into the yellow box that appears.



Type instruction on what should be changed regarding the text into the yellow box that appears.

5. Attach File Tool – for inserting large amounts of text or replacement figures.

6. Add stamp Tool – for approving a proof if no corrections are required.

Click on the Attach File icon in the Annotations section.



Click on the Add stamp icon in the Annotations section.



Click on the proof to where you’d like the attached file to be linked.





Select the file to be attached from your computer or network.

Select the stamp you want to use. (The Approved stamp is usually available directly in the menu that appears).



Click on the proof where you’d like the stamp to appear. (Where a proof is to be approved as it is, this would normally be on the first page).



Select the colour and type of icon that will appear in the proof. Click OK.

7. Drawing Markups Tools – for drawing shapes, lines and freeform annotations on proofs and commenting on these marks. Allows shapes, lines and freeform annotations to be drawn on proofs and for comment to be made on these marks..

How to use it 

Click on one of the shapes in the Drawing Markups section.



Click on the proof at the relevant point and draw the selected shape with the cursor.



To add a comment to the drawn shape, move the cursor over the shape until an arrowhead appears.



Double click on the shape and type any text in the red box that appears.
