Introducing Kitchen Kid’s:

an Enrichment Program where the Kitchen Classroom is the Tastiest Place to Learn! Kitchen Kid is excited to bring its newly designed enrichment program, Classroom Cooks, to your school this year! For the 2011/2012 school year, Kitchen Kid, a Santa Monica, CA based mobile cooking school for kids, will debut a completely re-designed edible education curriculum which carefully integrates core academic subjects, (such as math, science, geography, and culture), and important social values, (such as cooperation, sustainability, and self-reliance), with culinary concepts (like palate development and knife skills) and nutrition education (think fresh vs. processed foods and where food comes from). Edible Education Kitchen Kid believes in the power of food to unite people around the table and in the kitchen. In a time when childhood obesity continues to rise at alarming rates and many children are surprised to learn peaches grow on trees (not in cans), we teach important values through edible education, an essential ingredient to raising healthy, happy children. Our most popular inter-disciplinary courses, Books for Cooks, Global Eats, and Secret Garden, feature exciting new recipes, activities, and teaching strategies while continuing to be fun, and appealing to both Food Network junkies and kitchen first-timers. Kids cook with fresh, healthy ingredients and even learn about presentation: favorite recipes include Strega Nona’s Pesto Pasta, Watermelon Feta Salad (served in a hollowed-out watermelon!), and Vietnamese Spring Rolls. The Kitchen Classroom Kitchen Kid has partnered with over 20 local schools and organizations, including private schools, public school districts, community centers, and religious programs, and continues to grow. No kitchen or special equipment is needed to teach enrichment classes during or after the school day. We provide all ingredients, supplies, tools, and materials, allowing kids to mix math, simmer science, and taste geography in a “kitchen classroom” almost anywhere. Our flexible pricing is comparable to other enrichment classes offered at your school. Classroom Cooks courses are taught by trained “Culinary Coaches” who electrify the kitchen classroom with their love for cooking and teaching, and epitomize the belief that “the kitchen classroom is the tastiest place to learn!” About Kitchen Kid Since 2006, Kitchen Kid has been Los Angeles’ premier mobile culinary school for children and families. Founded by Samantha Barnes, a former middle school teacher, Kitchen Kid believes edible education is essential to raising healthy, happy children, and teaches lifelong skills through the lens of cooking. With afterschool culinary programs, in-home cooking classes, birthday parties, and summer camps, Kitchen Kid creates the tastiest place to learn.
