Who is the course for? This course is for voluntary/community groups and charities. Spare places may be available to statutory staff at a higher rate. It is aimed at staff and volunteers who run, or are involved with, the day-to-day operations of community venues. It is also aimed at staff and volunteers who run activities within a community venue.
What does the course cover? The course looks at the law, practice and procedures surrounding Health and Safety (H&S).
Why is H&S important? H&S legislation that applies to voluntary / community groups and charities Principles of sensible risk management Protecting everyone’s back and shoulders Building H&S – asbestos, legionella, gas, electricity Accident reporting First aid arrangements Food safety (summary only) Fire safety (summary only)
What will you achieve? An understanding of the importance of getting H&S right An understanding of the H&S responsibilities of those running the community venue and those using the community venue An understanding of what you can do to improve the H&S at your premises and to prevent volunteers getting injured or being made unwell

The fee for this course (subsidised by the Big Lottery) is £5 per person for voluntary/community groups and charities. If the course is not fully booked, spare places may be offered to statutory staff at £100 per person.
